Title: Safe to use burst bag of spraymalt?
Post by: enda on January 30, 2014, 02:09:26 PM
My latest delivery includes at least one burst bag of spraymalt. I haven't dug around the box but it doesn't look like more than a few grams have been lost. I plan to brew on Sunday if my current batch is ready for bottling (2 weeks in FV this saturday). Does sticking it in a ziploc this evening and making sure it's boiled on brewday sound like a reasonable plan or should I chuck it? My FV is still making the odd bubble so if bottling is pushed back til next weekend, is there any reason it won't survive not being airtight?

Once you boil it, it will be safe. Just keep it dry until you need it.  A ziploc bag will do the job fine.

PS, I see it's your first post. Welcome to the forum  :)

Cheers lads.

Box was a mess with sticky malt caked on the tins inside once I dug down so that went in the bin. Brewed the Coopers IPA after scrubbing the can clean at the weekend. What are the chances that I killed enough yeast to cause a problem by dropping the can in to a sink of hot, soapy water before I took the sachet out? It's bubbling away this morning anyway.

Bottling is tedious.
