The trappists have been rapidly expanding that past couple years and the US now officially has it's own trappist brewery.
The Belgian Trappist breweries that we're familiar with (Orval, Chimay, Westvleteren, Rochefort, Westmalle, & Achel) and Koningshoeven/La Trappe in the Netherlands have company!
Last year Austria got an official Trappist brewery (Stift Engelszell) and the Netherlands got it's second (Abdij Maria Toevluct) and now this year the US gets it's own Trappist brewery (In Massachusetts)!

I'm always astounded that Trappist breweries aren't in Harry Potter type buildings.
Need to lay off the Ken Follett.
Chimay brew one for a French Trappist abbey too

Have you been to Orval?
In good old Ireland the Cistercians (Trappists) make bread :(
Presumably the Irish were not able for beer.....
I sent to school in Cistercian College Roscrea, the bread was great stuff.
I keep wondering what kind of beer Buddhist monks would make.
Unbelievable, perfect time for me to leave Mass and come here
