Title: Back Sweeten Cider ?
Post by: Greg2013 on February 17, 2014, 12:30:07 PM
I have a cornie full to the gills with cider i put on the gas last night and added sorbate this morning. Sampled it last night and it was very dry so i would like to back sweeten it a bit. What is the best way to proceed from here ? ;D I don't have any xylitol or such, just brown sugar or table sugar or artificial sweetner tabs  ;)

If you added sorbate already you can sweeten it with anything you want :)
Got nice result with reduced clear tesco aj and some light golden sugar.
Mix AJ (3l) with sugar (0.5kg), boil and reduce by half.
Use as many you want to get required sweetness level.

Sounds like a good idea Jacob, will try that soon as i get to town.Does it make any difference that the cider is already partially carbed up ?  ;D

It all depends on one simple question:

Is it pasteurised?

Suggest you  look at cider_101:

It goes on to describe in some detail how to safely sweeten cider!
