Title: Malahide Water

Here are some results from some testing done yesterday from my kitchen tap in Seabiry, Malahide.

We are supplied primarily by the Leixlip Reservoirs and given the amount of rain we've had I doubt if any Bog-of-the-Ring well water was needed;

The results:

Straight from tap:


Ca  85 ppm  ,  Mg 12 ppm  ,  Carbonate Hardness 205 ppm

Straight from tap and boiled for 10 mins:

Ca  50 ppm  ,  Mg 12 ppm  ,  Carbonate Hardness 110 ppm

From Tap and put through a simulated Mash:

Carbonate Hardness  138 pp



So it shows that as expected boiling removes the temporary hardness!

The simulated mash profile was:

Heat water to 75C, hold for about 20 mins, then cool to 65C and hold for 90 mins.

So the mash temperatures we use do remove some temporary hardness.

Well done will - interesting results -

Its great to see our profile in Malahide is good  - ok sightly hard but calcium levels are good.

I wonder what the results would be after going through a simple carbon filter -

probably doesn't change much.. (other than getting rid of Chlorine and Flouride)
