Title: wlp liquid yeast life
Post by: LordEoin on March 11, 2014, 10:50:32 PM
Just wondering what's the usual fridge-life of WLP yeasts?
Got one today and it's best before date is in 2 weeks time. Is that normal?
How long am I safe after that?

Think they quote 3 months from production date. If you use yeastcalculator.com you'll get an idea of viability

If you use the Mr Malty calculator, count back 4 months from the expiry date on the vial and that will allow you to estimate the viability of the yeast in the pack. The figure you will get assumes that the vial was stored at roughly 4C. If the vial was stored at room temperature you can be pretty sure the yeast inside is in poor condition.

Allow a day extra for every month its out, good up to 4-6 months if stored correctly.
