I use propane with my own, I think it's an issue with the freezing point of butane so prolonged use outdoors on a cold day can cause the pressure to drop.

It has a lower freezing point and is more effective in low temps.
Still don't understand why everyone isn't using elecky :)

Butane at 10+ degrees ambient is 12% hotter than propane.

Butane freezes in prolonged hard frosts but otherwise has a slight edge. Burns hotter and lasts a bit longer. Also a bit easier to get.
Jaysus it must get could beyounf the pale!
Butane freezes at about -135C. It boils at about -1C

Aye, it doesn't freeze it just stops 'gassing off'.
When you hit the butane's boiling point at -1C it's more like a simmer with very little gas steam. over about 4-5C it'll be give off much more gas 'steam', like water at full boil. but you need ambient temps a few degrees higher.

Propane will 'boil' at about -45C, so there's never any danger of it not gassing off.

And on the original question, you can often find good strong gas rings in hardware stores or co-ops too. I think they're used for melting tar or something similar.

Get a reg and 2m of hose too, and the whole lot is slightly over 50 euro delivered.

thanks for the replies, is the reg just to control the flame height?
In one pic from hamiltons it had a turn screw type thing to control flow. same thing?

Bollox ???

For these burners running on a standard yellow butane bottle you need the adjustable reg that they sell (for a few quid more) as the fixed 37 mbar reg will generate a whole lot of soot!

It allows you to compensate for outside air temperature and get the flames you want
