Will someone take the reins on this and answer the open call for entries? It's not too hard to organise really. I hope one of the lads involved last year will be in a position to lead the way this year! The deadline for entries is May 11th and we were told we'd be very welcome again this year!

Really enjoyed this event last year -
Just need to double check that I can box off that day.
Hi there
Would love to do this again this year but unfortunately will be on holiday while it is on
There was huge interest from the public last year and whoever runs with this I would prepare some way of signing people up to the NHC. Even if it was something as simple as application forms.

I agree, this was a bit of a failing for us on the day, we should really have recruited a lot more members on the day, we had loads of visitors showing an interest in our club but were unable to convert that into members.

I was thinking that if we had a tablet (or two) and access to WiFi we could get people to sign up via the membership page. Maybe include the option of "Payment taken in cash" if people don't want to use their credit card details on a public network.
You can include me as a volunteer, unfortunately I can't take the reins because I am absolutely slammed and don't expect things to slacken off until 2015.
Are we talking registrations (free) or signed up membership(€10)?
Either way you don't need wifi!
1. pencil and paper to record: Name, E-mail, online name and any other details we care to ask/they are prepared to give
or
2. Exel spreadsheet to capture the above data
Then after the event an admin inputs the data to the system and sends an e-mail to the person welcomming them to the club.
If people want to pay on the day its a tenner in cash. No cash? Just register and then pay online when you convert to full membership
Lets keep this simples!
It doesn't really take much organising, really just a matter of filling out a form and turning up to a couple of meet and greet sessions. (last year I only made it to one of the meet and greet sessions)
I think a minimum of 4 people manning the stand should do the trick but 8 would be an ideal number.

I should be back from my holliers and really enjoyed this event last year.
I wouldnt want to put people off volunteering with the whole membership thing.
The objective here is to promote homebrew, promote the club and have some fun - not a recruitment drive.
If people like it - they will sign up.
Guys - I have registered us for the event !
Make and do - here we come !
I wouldn't mind helping out on the stand but im only at the extract level of brewing if that makes a difference
Thats grand - we would be glad to have you !
Count me in so

Extract brewing is probably the finest exposition of this art. Trust me, I'm a Doctor and an extract brewer :D (Ok, so I'm not really a Doctor ;) )
was looking at june before and thought it was on mid week ::)
should be available to help
Thanks Ronan - I'll put you down
Are we giving out beer at the stand this year?
Maker Fair ?
I dont think we can do that. Its just a demo stand.
Was hoping to demo all the gadgets and gismos that we make for homebrewing.
We did a homebrew demo as well last year... not sure if we need to do that this year but I have ordered all electrics just in case we want to do that.
Once we have all the volunteers organised - we can see what gear they would like to bring along.
Last year there was a lot going on, so glad we are part of it this year as well.
I have the demo stuff. Kilner jars of grain etc. I have them since AllTech
Great stuff, I'll nab em off ya nearer the time.
Just a quick update, our application for a stand at this event has been accepted.
Any ideas of cool brewing projects we could demonstrate ???
Keep in mind size of the event etc...
Battery drill and malt mill?
Have you electricity? Put on a small AG batch on an induction hob.
Arduino/BrewPi/STC-1000+ projects??
What about a small extract brew, 1 gallon maybe in a 3 litre pot with an empty 5 ltr water bottle as fermenter, show how little equipment you really need to make your own beer
...on a gas rig?
Yeap I have asked for two 13 amp sockets off a 15 amp breaker.
I like all those ideas, certainly the small extract makes a lot of sense, and after seeing will d arduino's setup last night, that's gotta be on the demo !!
Great stuff
We could also add,
home made stir plate, I have a number of fans spare as well.
Ok - the maker fair lads have been in touch. Its all shaping up nicely.
If you feel you could be around for even an hour on the day - please feel free to put your name beside the demo.
The theme is - homemade projects for homebrew.
It would be great if we had 8 or 9 things on demo throughout the day.
oh - you'll get free sandwiches ! :o - preks of the job ;) ;)
We will have a number of sockets (no arc-welding please!!)
Projects and person willing to Demo it!
Battery Drill and Malt Mill
Home made stir plate and 1 liter conical Partridge
STC 1000 using iPhone box ?!? Partridge
small extract brew, 1 gallon maybe in a 3 litre pot with an empty 5 ltr water bottle as fermenter
Arduino/BrewPi/STC-1000+ projects
Guys - this is coming up in a couple of weeks - Saturday 26th July
any chance people could confirm they are good to go ??
Just want to get an idea of the numbers - even if you are just floating - let me know.
We need about 4 people there between 12 - 3 to make this work well.
In case anyone didn't see it. Remember that video that was shot last year? Well, they compressed it down to about 3 minutes. We are at 1:20ish
http://www.dublinmaker.ie/recap-of-dublin-mini-maker-faire-2013/
Would love to be there but it clashes with the Beoir AGM in Kilkenny.
Im working that saturday i can be there in the afternoon some time between 2 and 4, will have a better idea closer to the date
You can confirm me for the day, did it last year and really enjoyed it.
01. Beerfly 2-4ish
02. Shiny - All day
Thanks a Million Shiny !

02. Shiny - All day
03. Partridge
sorry I can't make it guys, that's the date of the Beoir AGM (in Kilkenny)
That's a pity, no worries.
Okay only 8 days to go on this one.
This event is a great family occasion - what I like about it is that it promotes innovation, engineering and creativity. I cant think of a more creative bunch than the homebrewers we have here in the NHC. So we really need to demostrate and showcase the innovation we have in the NHC at this event.
So .. what are we going to show ??
Homemade Stirplate - with active yeast (and some fans)
Active fermentation in 1 gallon jar.
BrewPi in action
Hacked STC 1000 with fermentation schedules
etc ..
Want to get involved ?? You dont even need to bring anything - we need bodies to spread the good word
Why not add your name to the list - its a great event and all it will cost you is a little time.
James
01. Beerfly 2-4ish
02. Shiny - All day
03. Partridge
04. Will_D - All day hopefully
Will bring along the STC-1000+ and the Arduino so if you have one and need it flashing then bring it along and we'll see what can be done!
Lads I'll bring along a stirplate
Also do a 5 litre batch so we can see a live fermentation.
Anyone got a brewPi ?
I'm working on a ZigBee based wireless temperature monitoring thing for Saturday. I will print out custom enclosures for it as well if I can.
Sounds good Shiny !
Anyone else bringing stuff ?
01. Beerfly 2-4ish
02. Shiny - All day
03. Partridge
04. Will_D - All day hopefully
05. Rossa - certainly the morning anyway
Thanks a mill
Any Gadgets or Gizzmos you can bring along Rossa ?
Not a whole lot.My system is very basic I'll have a think about it.
No worries - not that anything is required of course - we will have plenty of bits there.
Will have to give a miss Im afraid, grandparents are coming up from Kerry Saturday
No worries Graham - thanks for trying !
Had Chat with the Mad Malahide Scientist
Good idea for a handsey-Onsey experiment
One glass of water, one glass of water with sugar and one glass of wort
Measuring the ABV in beer using Hydrometer and refractometer.
Also the usual stir plate and a 1 gallon fermentation.
James
Correspondence from Trinity - Sorry Will - setup is a little earlier than I thought !! ???
