Title: Water pump for brewing
Post by: Shanna on March 24, 2014, 08:00:18 AM
Hi there

Lidl will be selling a water pump on Thursday,  with a stainless steel pump housing. Would this be safe/suitable for brewing does anybody know?

No Food grade statement aside, with a max of 35 degC probabally wouldn't last long at 80 to 100 degC for Mash out and BK recirc and drain.

keep an eye out for a coffee maker that does espresso. the pump inside will be food grade and does about a litre per minute or thereabouts. Asso it is designed as a pressure pump so can manage pumping wheere a lift from floor say up to a conical is required. The whole coffee maker costs 39 euros when in lidl, but if anyone has a  broken one or disused one its a great source of a high quality food grade pump that is boiling water safe.

I have one on standby in case my chinese impellar pump ever packs up
