Title: Diageo and Heineken in Talks
Post by: DEMPSEY on April 01, 2014, 11:10:51 AM
Well it had to happen I suppose, the swing towards true Craft beer is causing the big 2 to realise that the game is up and so they are considering a collaboration to answer the changes. So with the combined weight of the big 2 becoming the big 1 they can stave off attempts to have either of them bought out. :)

It's not a fantastically unlikely scenario that Guinness might be sold off by Diageo so they can concentrate on spirits, but it would more likely be Carlsberg than Heineken, I reckon. The competition authorities wouldn't let Guinness + Heineken happen, but might be more happy with another big lager company.

Diageo and Heineken already have a JV in Namibia.
