Title: Frozen Yeast as Nutrient?
Post by: irish_goat on April 09, 2014, 03:43:03 PM
Quick question lads, I had a jar of old yeast fom a primary FV in the back of the fridge. Figured it was probably past its best so I poured it into a couple of vials and have stuck them in the freezer. Was thinking next brew day I can take one or two out and bung it into the boil to act as nutrient. Anyone spot any issues with this idea?

Nope, it's normally recommended to use old dried, yeaat, but I don't see why it would make a difference, all you're doing is adding old yeast hulls to help the new yeast create new yeast hulls from the same building blocks. I'd say use it.

1 tsp can't do any damage pre-boil anyway....
