Title: Oud Bruin - Transfer to barrel....???
Post by: Eoin on April 10, 2014, 10:40:41 AM
So lads when are we doing this, I haven't checked since the day after pitching, but I'd imagine mine is still on high krausen, with it only being a few days in the fermenter.

What is the date we've finally decided upon for transfer to barrel and what is the preferred transfer method?

I have two cornies here that don't belong to me that I can possibly use, but I'd prefer to transfer still in the primary vessel, but it's rather large.

I have no gas to seal the cornies either should I decide to use those...would that matter awfully?

Think it's 22nd.

Would you consider secondary in a smaller container that could be easily transported?

I don't have anything smaller that I want to sour.....

The double batch does make logistics a. Little more difficult....

Exposure to o2 needs to be kept at a minimum to reduce the risk of it turning acetic. So I'd say transfer in primary to Dodge's if you don't have gas.

I'm not sure I'll get this on my crossbar to Moate.....

I think Dodge is collecting all of it in Dublin. He can correct me if I'm wrong on that.
I meant split it into 2x20L for easier transportation. Cornies.

I'm using the 25 litre jerry cans the cider juice came in.

I drilled out the lids of my cider cans to take a stopper and a bubbler......seemed like a good idea at the time.

Yep Saturday the 22nd is pickup. I'm traveling to work that night and so intended to pick up everyone's batch.

On Sunday morning when I get home, the barrel will be drained and rinsed out ready to transfer all our epicness to the mother ship

Ok lads. How does Sat 12 look for organizing the pickup of beer? I'm working that night so my plan would be to pickup from a central point and then in the morning I will transfer to the barrel.

Anybody that hasn't brewed yet needs to get it on soon.

Once in the barrel I'll post up the barrel fill level status.

So it's the 12th. Everyone had enough time to plan from message posted up on the 29th March

I'll be in my car so cornies, jerry cans or sealed buckets should be fine.

Could I ask for a dedicated pick up point around 8ish in the evening?

I have no way to travel from here with my stuff, it's a large fermenter, 60l eurobucket. I can get dimensions.

Ok lads here it is

I'm heading to Dempsey, followed to tube, followed to Eoin, followed to McGrath. Any body else to arrange to drop off at either of these points.

I'll leave my place at 8pm so expect pickup start at 8:45 and to follow on. Is this alright?

Thanks Shane for helping out.

I have to go past your way anyway so as long as Mark can drop his over. Brian can keep his or drop. Doesn't matter.
Eoin and Ciaran I will collect.

I still have mine in the fermenter, I brewed mine a week or so later than most. I haven't taken a gravity reading yet.
