Guys,
As you prolly know there is a lot of talk about getting mixed gas (Stout 25% CO2, 75% Nitrogen) or 50/50 for other products.
Due to the massive Diag/Heino monopoly in the republic nearly all pubs have a supply contract from BOC. Pubs don't pay for the gas as D/H pay BOC on a keg sales basis.
The UK model is way different!. Most pubs get their own gas from independent suppliers. Last time I was in North East Manchester where I lived (Ashton-under-Lyne for 20 years I checked out the gas bottle emptys at the back of my local.
A quick chat and a couple of phonecalls and I found 2 places within a 10 miles radius that would sell me a full mixed gas bottle for £40. Refills £10! Naturally I put one in the car and brought it home.
Now the point of this post is: Can the Belfast and Derry lads check out their pubs and ask where the gas comes from?
We may be able to solve the gas problem!
Next time I go to Manchester I could pick up a few more but start to worry about being pulled by the ferry company for compressed gas abuse ???
The equipment needed to produce mixed gas is not overly expensive for a small buisness.
You buy the CO2, and either buy the N2 or more likely extract it from the air with a gas RO system. Then the two are compressed and blended and then filled into bottles.

Pretty sure it's BOC as well. The north is just like the south in that it's dominated by Diageo/Molson/C&C, even more so than the south in fact.
Nifex on the Colinglen Road, Belfast, sell mixed gas. Is that what you wanted or is it specifically where the pubs get it?
I just need to find suppliers that will sell bottles to us down south without the BOC contractuals and for less money :)
Nifex (http://www.yell.com/biz/nifex-ltd-belfast-546587/) are probably your best bet - they definitely do mixed gas because I ordered it by mistake! Not sure what the ratio is though.
I think it was maybe £80 for a bottle and £20 refills.
