http://beersmith.com/blog/2011/10/07/parti-gyle-brewing-two-beers-from-one-mash/ - I tend to not sparge when brewing but rather than wasting all that nice sugar left over from my first runnings I thought I might give this a try ;)

I've parti-gyled. Worked out really well actually. I did a doppel back and a pale ale from the same grain. 20l of each. 9% and just about 3% I think. Pale ale was super (galaxy and citra). Basically mashed twice and gathered 26l of each wort and boiled them down to 20l.

HAHAHA LOVE IT. 2 batches and im Mr Parti-Gyle.

With a bit of practice and lots of careful hydrometer readings its can be a great way to grea great results from a few extra hours work. I do 2 mashes splitting into 4 lots ( 2 X 1st runnings & 2 X 2nd runnings lot) which gives an massive and a normal to beer depending on the recipe.

You can always mix and blend the runnings to get the exact pre boil gravity you wish for the desired recipe you want.

This is the second year I have been doing this style. First year turned out great. OG 1.90? down to FG 1.020. IBU 100.
This year is going to be a bit more  ;)

1.106 and down to 1.026 so far for the BIG beer and 1055? (i think) for the smell beer.

Its a great way to grey great results for a couple of extra hours work.
I'm thinking about doing the same again ( after the next group malt bye) with an Imperial and dry stout.

If you like your beers BIG this is the process for you.

Lots of measurements but even more and better results.
Enjoy.

I'd love a copy of the spreadsheet, planning an imperial stout / porter brew day soon  :)
