Title: Bog Myrtle
Post by: LordEoin on April 20, 2014, 02:32:58 PM
Has anyone used bog myrtle in their beers?
Is it hard to find, or is it all over the bogs?

The National parks are full of the stuff. In a couple of weeks they'll start sending out fresh growth, and you can take softwood cuttings of these. The missus grabbed me some but it's all old wood. I'm going to give it a lash anyway.

What part do you use in beer? the leaves or the flower?

AFAIK all of it. The wood smells amazeballs. I've not used it yet as I'm trying to get hold of a plant myself.

Bren's staying fairly quiet on this. He must be out the back, sunbathing. He's the Cat 23 expert and I'm sure he said he's used it.

Its an acid loving boggy places plant so thats where to look.

I think Rossa may have brewed with it.

Can be bought (dried) here:

William's Bros Grozet has bog myrtle in it and it's lovely, although I don't know how much it contributes to the flavour.
