Title: Hop filter DIY
Post by: Beerbuddha on April 21, 2014, 10:02:37 PM

This looks simple to make has anyone made one ? Taughts ?
400 micron stainless steel wire mesh looks like the tricky bit as i have none....does anyone have some laying about or cheapest place to order from?   I have 316 stainless perforated sheets perfect for false bottom and this mesh would stop all those tiny bits that get past it/.

The mesh works fine but my design uses copper pipe with the mesh wrapped around it. It is a bitch to clean :(

ye thats the stuff. I was thinking of simply cutting 30cm disk from stainless sheet and laying the mesh over it for mash tun but for boiling wort simply copy the pic from ebay as its simple TIG weld onto some stainless bar. Im going to pellet hops and dont want wort chiller/pump clogging

Im gonna build the frame for hop spider. I think going square is best option as clamping the mesh will be very tricky as i dont have a seam welder so if i go square i can clamp one corner tight and this should do nicely with no creases. I have chosen SS obviously and i think 6 inches high by 4 inches wide will fit into keg nicely. One place that will ber tricky is the bottom so im gonna for some perforated sheet and basicaly i can cut mesh and squeeze it down into the bottom of spider but as its a prototype i will see how it goes. No right or wrong way its all good old fasioned DIY

Stage one complete minus mesh !

So thats cage made. The mesh will wrap around it nicely i hope. I will drill holes in the single piece of bar and thread one corner of the cage. This will clamp the edges of mesh.
