Title: Beers from Einstein and Summer Wine country
Post by: dn218 on May 10, 2014, 01:12:52 PM
As I travel with the job I get to sample local brews wherever I go, (only perk these days!)
Last week I was in Ulm in Germany, birthplace of Einstein and highest steeple on a church in Europe. The big local brewery is Golden Ox  www.gold-ochsen.de, tried their hefeweizen which is pretty good on par with the mainstream hefes from Bavaria but not a life changer. A real gem of a find (local recommendation) was a local micro pub 'Barfuesser die Hausbrauerei' Lautenberg 1, Ulm. If you're ever in Ulm check it out.

Week before I was Holmfirth Nth Yorks, UK (home of 'Last of the Summer Wine' ) in search of the infamous Summer Wine craft brewery. Heard that they stopped supplying local business about 1 year ago and couldn't find any trace of bottles or kegs in any hostelry I tried. Again we discovered a local micro pub gem in the town called 'The Nook' http://thenookbrewhouse.co.uk/ we drank a keg dry of their pale ale so top marks, hoppy enough to resemble a more US based session ale without being over bitter. So good I've forgotten the name...!!!! Will post after some research with my fellow drinking and music buddies!!

The session IPA was called 'Cliffhanger' in the Nook, not listed on their site but a very good pint for an all day session (only 3.5-3.8%)
