Evening all. Lads have any of you tried this kit from brewferm. This is only my second kit and I found this on youtube http://m.youtube.com/results?q=brewferm%20old%20brown%20kit#/watch?v=WZyRv-_dQhg
What do you think! I hope to get the time tomorrow to brew this up. I've made the Brewferm Christmas Ale but from what I've heard it won't be ready till Christmas, it's bottled and in the spare fridge sitting at 10 dregs.
Im also using my new Peco TE75 immersion heater this time, the house temp was up and down while the Christmas ale was fermenting, causing it to ferment slowly, hope this doesn't have any negative effects.
Any thoughts on the Old Brown would be appreciated.
never tried a brewferm old flemish brown.
try it sure, and let us know how you get on :)
Well its in the FV, i used 500grams of DME and 330grams of brewing sugar which gave me a gravity of 1059. The smell in the kitchen was great.
Going by the instructions iv got to do a second fermentation in another container for 4 weeks and then bottle and leave it for another 8 weeks. i dont mind waiting but was just wondering if anyone can recomend a good dark ale/porter/stout(the matlier the better) that dosent takes so long to brew! Thanks. Gav
I quite like the Coopers Irish Stout.
Does exactly what it says on the tin ;)
Thanks LordEion, do you make the kit straight as per the instructions or do you sub the sugar for DME. Might get that going in the FV soon as the Ale is done. Thanks.
my favorite was with 1kg DME +100g chocolate grain + 200g carapils +250g brewing sugar, some late boil fuggles and a fuggles dryhop.
It's also very good with just 500g DME + 500g Wheat DME + 500g brewing sugar.
LordEoin I took your advice on the Coopers stout, took a detour on my way from Kildare to Kilkenny and stopped off at the homebrew company in Mountmellic. I went with the DME/sugar version as this is only my third kit I don't want to get ahead of myself. Thanks for the advice, il let you know the results in a couple of months.
