Summer's nearly here and that means wits, weisses, grazters and all that other good wheaty stuff.
But does anyone know where to get oat hulls. I was in the HBC the other week and they didn't have any. Still don't online.
I got mine from hopandgrape.co.uk Best to order 2-3 kgs as it will last you ages unless like me you give it away and now im down to last 300g ::)
talk to farmes by the end of the summer, plenty of them from combine harvesters.
just bring the empty malt bag with you to the field :)
Grand grab me a bag also :)
Cheaper to buy the stuff than ask a farmer for a favour O0

;D I bet some of us here are farmers
Then I bet some of us on here know what I'm talking about O0
Jaysus, don't make it any worse, you might end up with fork in your back :D
Uhu well why didn't you ask a farmer for husks before you took my last 500g huh :P
Ouch!
Cos it's not a harvest time?
Oh so when it's harvest time your all Mr farmers friend !
But when it's not you make stereotypical comments about farmers with pitch forks !
That kinda stereotype leads to racism against people and farmers are people.... hard working back bone if Ireland type.....shame in YOU Pollack and i have polytunnel I'm half farmer >:D
Ok, I give up. I'm not drunk enough to argue with half farmer.
It's all MrHappy's fault, shouldn't ask for husks in May ;D
At least you can drink as some are on babysitting duties. Sorry Mr hoppy for ranting on post and no farmers feelings where hurt during the ranting on this post ;)
For some must watch, while some must sleep,
So runs the world away.
Oh dear God.....I'm guessing you have the "drunk enough" zone
Are oat husks like rice hulls? I'm reading allot about rice hulls lately.
Afaik rice hulls serve the same purpose!
Both do same thing I just find oats easier to get. Maybe someone else can give more info.

Thing is, I'm not going to want to make summery wheat beers in September :( Looking into a possible source at the moment.
Would use rice husks but I've never seen them for sale here.
Why don't you just stick some muslin in your mash tun, if you are worried about a stuck mash? Used to mare a lot of wheat beers back in my BIAB days often with 60% wheat, and never had problems.
Reinheitsgebot laws dont allow muslin bags :D
