Title: Wort chiller leak
Post by: cpb on July 01, 2014, 11:43:31 AM
Hi All,
Just looking for some advice.
I was making my first lager from an all grain kit and everything was going smoothly enough. I'd finished the boil and had put the wort chiller in the kettle and had started to bring the temperature down to pitch the yeast. It took quiet a while as you have to get the temperature as low as possible for lager yeast. I left the wort chiller running for five minutes and when I came back it had sprung a leak at the top of it and had dripped about an inch of water on the top of my lager. Because of the different densities the water didn't mix with the lager. I got my siphon and removed the water and about a half inch of lager.

My question is do you think it will be ok or should I just ditch the batch?

Any help advice would be very useful.
Thanks,
C

Don't ditch unless its ruined. Might be fine. Murphy's law says that when you fook up a beer it often becomes the best beer you have ever made ::) :)

Kit beers are topped off with cold water.  It should be fine.  Unless your water is dodgy...
