Title: Summer Hop Harvest
Post by: Paddy on July 04, 2014, 04:29:35 PM
Hi guys

Was wondering if any of you are growing hops at the minute?

I ask as I have four varieties growing and since it is my first year I'm kinda wingin it  :D

They are about 25 - 30ft at the minute but still don't have cones - though the little arms grew out a few weeks ago.

I know the are ready to harvest at different time in different geographic locations so any rough ideas on when they might be ready in these parts?  I'm gonna take a stab and say maybe late August?

Also my first year growing hops - not getting anything like as much growth as Paddy, longest is maybe 3-4ft.  I'm getting a lot of short runners from each plant rather than one long one.  If I prune back a few of the shorter runners will it help growth, or is it too late at this stage?
