Poll
Question:
Where would you prefer for the next meetup
Option 1: Kavanaghs
votes: 2
Option 2: Alfie Byrnes
votes: 5
I has looking at the 29th for the next meetup but that was one of the Garth Brooks dates so that would mean most places would be busy and traffic across the city would crazy
We were talking about it in TOG Sat and will have it on the 30th. Both kavanaghs and Alfie Byrnes were mentioned so will put up a poll for it and go with whichever one is leading at the weekend*
*subject to licence ;)
off that day so either way I'll be there with a loada booze (been busy)
1. Hingo - 90 min Cont. Hop IPA, PIRA (Peanut Imperial Red Ale), Irish Stout & bit of Breakfast Stout

Good stuff! Count me in so. How many bottles of each style should I bring along?
About 2x 500ml bottles will be plenty, if ya have smaller/bigger bottles - anything to around the 1 ltr mark
I have a spare copy of American Sour Beers: Innovative Techniques for Mixed Fermentations if anyone is interested? €10 and it's yours. I forgot I'd pre ordered it ages ago and then went and ordered it from Amazon, duh! I can bring it along Wednesday evening...

I haven't got my bottle gun but I'll purge a bottle and bring a bottle from the tap.

Well I'm just en route now so I hope so
Im 40min into the Q for a free burrito. Probably another 30mins wait!
Well fuck me what a meeting! The most beers I've tasted at one sitting and nearly all at a highest level. So many great saisons and i never would have believed 'brets'. Truely enlightening. Although as i believe a number of the attendees were liffey anf not capital brewers :P
Great night. Very enjoyable. I've never been at a meet with so many beers and of such quality!
I am feeling a little worse for it today though.
Cracking beers, I feel like Ive been hit by a truck
same
I also setup a whatsapp group last night so if anyone who i have not added wants to join just pm me your number
Yep some unreal beers last night.. Gonna want that saison recipe Fionn!!
Seriously serious beers last night everyone, best club meetup I've been to yet. Thanks!
Ferg here's the recipe:
Grain:
Pilsner malt 58%
Munich Malt 32%
Malted Wheat 10%
5-7 mins from end of 60 min boil:
Dark moscavado 200g
Demadera 200g
Corriander seed 20g
Allspice 1 g
Black Pepper 1g
Grapefruit zest 1 large
Orange zest 1 small
Fennel seed 1g
for the hops use any low alpha acid hops and head for the 36 IBUs mark, keeping most of the hopping to the last 5 min addition.
Yeast: as per the discussion last night, experiment with the different saison yeasts, Markc was suggesting that Farmhouse Blend was the bomb, I used WPL 568.
happy brewing.
So.. So many great beers... so many..
I'm in a bad place today, fairly sure it's my last day on this earth. :'(
great night though! :P
Looks nice. I don't think I've seen fennel seed in a recipe before.
How dark is it? Does the Muncih and dark sugar contribute much colour?

It's quite clear, well i put 400g of sugar into a 26 liter boil, not much colour coming from it, should have put a percentage... 15.4g per liter...
Really enjoyed the other night! Wasn't sure what to expect since it was my first time to a meetup but I was well impressed, so many great beers on show!! Can't wait for the next one now!
For anyone who was interested, this is the electric pot I use as my mashtun.

Although it says the thermostat can be used to hold constant temperatures, the thermostat is not nearly constant enough to be used for mashing. The way to use it for mashing is to monitor the temperature using a thermometer and then turn it on and off accordingly. Its the same prinicpal as mashing in a pot/keg on a burner...lots of monitoring temperatures and lots of stirring but it works well and an easy way to step mash.

Hi..what's the volume of it. I don't see it listed..?
29 litres. I don't think there's any larger than that but there are smaller ones. There's more specs given on each model on the manufacturers website
http://www.bielmeier-hausgeraete.com/en/Preserving-Cooker-Mulled-Wine-Machine/
Make a nice big starter with it, I've fermented on the warm side with it, around 23c and let it rise. It's pretty fast as well... I posted the recipe to that grapefruit saison here a while back.... http://www.nationalhomebrewclub.com/forum/index.php/topic,7127.0.html

Cheers! I'll also be fermenting it on the warm side and was concerned that it might churn up some unwanted esters but having tasted the fantastic results you achieved, the yeast can obviously handle the heat
