Well its the first of August today and we have two comps this month to win and prove we are the best!
Jacobs win in the Darkside competiion adds another gold to our CV.
Agenda:
1. Please bring your entries for BOTH comps if possible on the 12th. Registration closes on the 14th and beers will be collected from me on the 18th or so.
Also who is travelling to Bray on the 23rd for the judging and who wants to judge? I remeber someone wanted to try out BJCP standard judging.
2. We may have some info re the JDW takeover and would they be amenable to us still meeting there. Also the time frame involved - as in they may close the Boro for a refurb. Mark & Jason have agreed to discuss with them
3. Quadraphenia progress: Its a big beer and we are getting there!. Maybe a small sample ot two?
Is it too early to arrange a fill date?
4. Bru Brewery tour: This is still undersubscribed - we can talk about it!
So as to the beers and the list:
1. Will_D: Maybe a cider!

2. Jacob: ?
The Ploughmans pub in Kinsealy are looking to start a craft beer club. I told them some of us might be interested. It might be a possible venue for us too..

Might be a bit late but I should be along. I'll have to see what I have to bring along because it seen slow brewing lately.
Have a Vienna lager on tap at the moment so might bring that along if its still around. ;)
We really need to decide on a timeline for empty and refill of the barrel.
I have a spare carb cap that I'd be happy to donate to the club for the purpose of tastings of the barrel.

5. The RDS in September
Should be along with a pale ale, all going well!
Ok Gents
I have 20 X Brown Bottles - if anyone wants them
I have 2 X jars of fresh WLP400 trub - collected last night, if you are doing a WIT soon, it would save you making a starter.
Just let me know if anyone wants them and I will bring them along.
I'd take some wlp400. Had to dump mine the other day. Kept it too long..
No worries - anyone need the bottles ??
I have football with the kids so I'll be there just before 8pm.
I'd love some WLP400 also, DO you need any Peat, abby,Rauchmalz, specialty malts?
EDIT: Will, what is the story with the labels for the Red Ale comp? I haven't received anything yet.
No worries - I bring both of those jars of fresh yeast.
I'd take a small ammount of Rauchmalz if its going !

EDIT: Will, what is the story with the labels for the Red Ale comp? I haven't received anything yet.
We are not sending out labels!
Labels are simply just:
Name of Beer
Your Name
Phone number
category
Write out on piece of paper and attach with elastic bands or a MINIMAL amount of sellotape!
@All: If you bring entries I will take them off you.
Otherwise you will have to bring them over to me by the weekend
Well what a night! Great turnout (our best to date) 16 people were there.
A few new faces (to me anyway) all were made welcome.
Important matters were discussed:
1. Re the competition some entries were dropped off, some people will get the Dart down to bray. Still time to enter!
2. The next meeting in September will be held in the other Smith's pub in Swords - the 44. This is subject to confirmation.
3. Quadraphenia is still bubbling away. Consider the fill after the RDS - end Sept early October
4. Bru Brwery Tour. This is going on this Saturday. Cahal will get a quote for mini-bus transport from the Boro to Trim and Back.
5. Much mention was made of the RDS craft fest in Seotember by Will and James. Please sign up for the NHC stand or the Beoir thread if you want the benefits!
6. TCF: Now at €113 + 31 = €144 It was agreed that any prize shortfall would come out of this and still leave a healthy 50% of the Christmas party. However: Where to hold the party? with the number of members and partners we will need a reasonable sized venue!
7. JAmes informed us of the first National Homebrew day to be held country wide on October 25 th. We need a public venue to hold a brewday. Sure the Boro is a no-no. 445 has a large outdoor covered smoking area or there is the rugby club. We will start a separate thread about this and discuss fully at the September meet.
There being no other buisness it was time to taste some beers and ciders!
Hope my tannic/other-offflavour effort at the cider making didn't upset too many people!
However there were a fantastic number of great beers and only one or two that were considered "tasting experiences(Sub Cat: not good)"
If I've forgotten anything please update the thread
Good job will as always !
Great evening again. Was nice to see few new faces and try some good beers.
Great night and explosive Beers :P
Top Beers for me were Dan's Pale Ale, Cathal's IPA and Jacobs friends Coconut Porter.
Yea - Seps 'polo buscuit' Porter / Stout was great alright and fair play Dan - great pale ale.
The mead at 9% was great and the cider at 14% was also a great brew, after that it was getting blurry !
I really enjoyed last night. Big fan of the coconut stout and the IPA.
I'll be making my way up to Swords a bit more in the future!
Sorry I had to miss last night. Sounds like it was a great night.
really liked the imperial red, shame we had to split it with the carpark

Just an update re. the vennue:
Called over to 44 this after and its in hand (as in who I spoke to couldn't make the call) but could see no reason why not.
Also thought that we could use the Bar/Parlour
More news when available - looks like daily lunchtime trips are needed.
