Title: Hello from Belfast
Post by: Jonny on August 17, 2014, 12:10:48 PM
Hi guys,

Just making myself known. I'm based in Belfast and I've just very recently started kit brewing. Been bitten by the bug already though. Was pretty surprised to learn not only that Ireland has a fairly sizable homebrew community, but also an incredibly active one! Who knew?

Looking forward to learning a lot more from you guys as I go along. Keep doing what you're doing. I've already learned a lot of stuff just by looking over some of the existing posts.

That's all. Look forward to chatting to all of you.

Jonny.

Welcome.

You've got a fairly active local club, and a bricks&mortar homebrew shop near you, helping you get stuck into your new hobby!

What kit did you make?

Thanks guys!  I started with the Brewbuddy Lager kit Tom.

Now I'm trying out this Youngs IPA one.

Mostly trying to just establish the right kind of setup through trial and error.  Mostly error at this stage :).  For instance I'll know not to try brewing lager in the summer again.  But you really learn so much just by giving it a shot.  Really love that the homebrew shops are popping up now too.  But did I see one of you guys say that the Smithfield one's closing down?  That'd be such a shame.  It's the one I pop into from work every now and then.  Seems the hobby is really picking up.  Didn't think I'd find so many enthusiasts so easily.  So that's encouraging!

Wanna make sure my equipment is all working the way I want before I move on to the all grain brewing.  For instance I had to replace my fermenter because the one I got with my first kit isn't airtight.  You live and learn.

Anyway, that's where I'm at.  Thanks a lot for making yourselves known.

Jonny.
