Hey folks. I need a bit of help with a Belfast drop point for the IPA fest competition being held in Galway in Oct. Is there a local off license or pub that are friendly to the Belfast Homebrewers that wouldnt mind taking & storing entries for us? Cheers Tom
Hi Tom - the Vineyard (http://www.vineyardbelfast.co.uk) +442890645774 on the Ormeau Road have acted as a drop for the nationals. I can give them a shout if you'd prefer.
Great. Would you mind getting in touch? Might be better coming from a local :) Cheers boss
Ah grand man - no worries! What're the details? Collection dates/times etc.?
How many people are thinking of submitting entries from the the Belfast club? I don't know everyone yet, but from the list of entries I get the feeling I'm the only entry so far. Seems a bit much asking vineyard to be a drop point unless there's going to be a flurry of entries over the next 6/7 weeks? If it turns out I am the only entry I can just meet someone somewhere. On the other hand I'm not far from the vineyard if you'd rather I popped in and asked in person rather than ringing them.
Hi Ciaran - we're thinking of submitting an entry. Completely agree with you re. the drop point. I'll hold off contacting the Vineyard until we know better. What do you think Tom?
Hmmm... haven't really being paying much attention recently and sort of missed this whole IPA fest thing.
Haven't brewed in about 5 weeks, between holidays, birthday, and completing my fermentation chamber. Back in the saddle now, however, but had been planning more Autumn-y ale type brews. I've a couple of APA's made earlier in the summer. Could submit one or two of those if they meet the criteria. How strict is it? These APA's are hoppy enough, but a far cry from a licking a battery type IPA.
-Barry
Dunno man - if you've a few bottles spare might be good even to get the feedback?
There's definitely some overlap between the APA and IPA styles.
Where are the rules for this? I might have one or two.

If there is only gona be a few of ye then could some one act as the drop point? Il have them picked up by DPD so all you'd need to do is pack them well & safe in a box & I can take care of the rest. Would that be cool?
I can do the needful if people can get to cutters wharf carpark around lunchtime during the weekdays. Outside of working hours might be a bit tricky with other commitments.
I've been drop point for the Belfast/Liffey comp and I can be drop point for this one. I'm pretty centrally based in Belfast so can do collections too. There's no guarantee that your beers won't get drunk, though. Just thought it fair to warn you.

Jeez Bazza - 07:17am! Please tell me you've just come in from a night out!
I'm only up because Mr Yodel has just delivered my latest grain order. Now, should I go and get started?????
:)
Couldn't sleep, Andy. A mixture of nervous energy and indigestion. Mostly indigestion.
Yeah, man. Lovely day like that? Get brewing. It'd be a sin not to.
-Barry
:(Barry - forgive me, for I have sinned! :(
This mornings delivery was short of 2 pks of hops, so the planned brew was a non-starter. They arrived by separate post later in the day, but by that time I was committed to other family stuff!
The kids are back to school on Monday, so tomorrow is also out (better do some last day fun stuff with them - like wash the muck off!!), so looking like a night-shift through the week!
Yo lads the competition registration has opened!

Brew is finished condition and just entered for this today.
I might be able to get bottles to Galway this weekend if everyone else has theirs ready? Either way I'll wait so we can sort out the drop point and all enter together with the one collection/delivery.
Great stuff Ciaran! Only pitched on Saturday there so nowhere near ready! ;)
How's everyone else getting on?
So, first taste tonight! mmmm...............mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
Looking good, tasting fine!
How are the rest of the Belfast IPA's coming on?
Tut, really should think about changing those curtains?
I've literally just sat down after brewing up a new slightly tweaked version of whats getting sent to the competition, only this time with one of the flavour hops substituted out. Re-used the washed yeast from the competition batch so should be very similar.
As for the one getting entered, I'm so struggling to stay away from it during the week *slurp* *slurp*
Next up will be a stout or two :)

Just bottled them last night, a bit close for comfort but hopefully should be conditioned in time. Do we need a list of people with beers for the drop point?
Whether we need it or not, let's start one:
Galway IPA Fest - Belfast Entries
1. Quiet_Man 1 paid (14B American IPA)

North drop point:
If ye can pack your orders together I will have the box picked up on my DPD account. Please PM me for details. Thanks.
Entries would need to be packed & ready for pick up by Tue 21st Oct. .
All entries must be here with us in Galway Thursday morning 23rd Oct. No exceptions! Thanks.
What does everyone think? Ciaran has kindly offered to act as drop point if we can get our entries to cutters wharf car park during the week. I unfortunately couldn't easily do this but would be able to do collections some evening/weekend.
Yeah, offer still stands. I can realistically meet anywhere in Belfast on most days (although Tuesdays and Thursdays between 6.30 and 8.30 are out). We've a fortnight from tomorrow to get ourselves together so hopefully should be achievable.
That's excellent Ciaran. I would only be able to get down some evening. How are you fixed for a DPD collection? My wife's on maternity leave at the minute so if it suited better I could collect from you and then get the DPD collection from my house?
So there are two possible plans for a Belfast drop point so far:
1. If DPD will be picking up at Chris's house:
Quiet man (and any other late entries) - to try and get your entry to mine before the 18th.
Next step would be to get them to Chris's brother by the same date (18th)
Chris will pickup from there and the DPD collection could be booked from his for the Monday 20th or Tuesday 21st.
alternatively
2. If everyone can get their entries to Belfast I don't mind doing the DPD collection from my house or my work
Ok. Where are you (Ciaran) and subs brother based? I'm at Ravenhill, but can drop the bottles anywhere.
Sweet, we're all the same area, I'll pm you next week and we can sort something out. Sure Chris if you can get the entries to your brother I'll just do the DPD drop for handiness??
Ah good stuff - that would be great! I might not be able to get them to him until next weekend but I can always drop stuff down to you some evening.
Yo Ciaran - hoping to get these beers to my brother this weekend. Does that suit you to collect after the weekend? Or should I drop them down during the week?
Hi Chris,
Sorry I'd a few days away on a stag do there so just getting back into the swing of things. That all sounds spot on, I've no major plans this weekend and picking them up should be no hassle at all. I can either grab them on a weekday on the way home from work or we can sort out something for over the weekend if that suits you better.
Quiet_Man - I can call at yours at similar times if you like?
Is that everyone ?
Cheers!
Ah good stuff! How was the stag?
I should be giving them to Iain on Saturday so maybe Monday if that's not cutting it too fine to the Tuesday deadline?
I'm all labelled, bubble-wrapped and ready to go, so anytime.
Ciaran - I'll pm you my details and we can sort something out.
Andy
All sounds good lads, I'll sort out pickups with you both. I've no big plans this weekend so can pickup both of them at some stage and aim to arrange a drop off into the castlereagh DPD depot on monday/tuesday latest. If saturday/sunday pickup suits you both we should try and get them all together by the end of the weekend.
Cheers
Good stuff Ciaran - I'll be getting the beers to my brother on Saturday so you could maybe collect them on Sunday evening?
If you need them earlier or at a more definite time I can take a run down on Sunday.
No probs Ciaran. I'll be in touch about the weekend pick up/drop off.
What beers went down at The Lighthouse last night?
Only called in the once, and stock was pretty low, but still managed to pick up some Beavertown and Stone beers. Must call in again.
Lighthouse beer tasting is tonight (stouts and quads :) ). The only info I have is there's a Brooklyn beer called Cuvee Noire, a La Trappe Quadruple Barrel Aged beer also in the bottle and then a Tool's 'Fuck Art' beer on tap at the bar (all are double figures in ABV !!! I can't see much work getting done tomorrow).
Saturday or Sunday is grand cheers. If you fire me a txt with your addresses when they're ready to go and I'll call round when it suits sure? Cheers
Great stuff! Have a La Trappe Quad at home but can never bring myself to drink it. Maybe one for the apocalypse! ;)
Ciaran, were you able to get a box? I've a lovely one in work, double corrugated an' all!
According to the Galway Homebrewer' s Twitter feed, the Belfast beers arrived safe and well. Cheers Ciaran!
Good luck for Saturday everyone!

Good luck for Saturday everyone!
Yeah great stuff Ciaran - thanks for organising this!
Good luck!
Well done Ciaran for Gold in the English IPA (14A) category and Bronze for Best of Show!
Hi everyone! Just wanted to know if anyone was up for getting their scoresheets for the IPA fest entries?
They have been scanned but are illegible. The plan is that, if you want your score sheet, a stamped addressed envelope should be sent to the organisers and they will post accordingly.
IPA fest scoresheets (http://www.nationalhomebrewclub.com/forum/index.php/topic,7695.msg106799.html#msg106799)
I'm happy to arrange a group stamped addressed envelope but need to know who all wants their scoresheets?
Yes please.
Andy
I'd be up for that too. Cheers.
Just an update that these are underway - will keep yous posted!
