Title: No rinse chemipro oxi leaving off flavours?
Post by: Fal on August 26, 2014, 08:50:26 AM
I've just recently started using chemipro oxi on my last 2 brews for sanitizing fermenters and bottles and I think I'm getting off flavours from it. Has anyone else had anything like this?

The flavor is hard to describe, I'll have try another beer later. But definatly the hop aroma is being muted by it.

Chemipro oxi is basically the same stuff as lidl oxi powder but it's marketed as a no-rinse sanitiser. It definitely needs to be rinsed though. I usually use a kettle of boiling water.

Thanks John, I'm bottling again tonight. I'll make sure I rinse this time.

I didn't know the lidl oxi powder is the same, the missus has a few tubs of that under the sink. Do I mix and use the same way and the chemipro?

Yeah, I've never noticed any difference between them. If you're bottling, I wouldn't use boiling water for the rinse. Maybe boil the kettle a little in advance and let the water cool a bit. That way, it'll still be sanitised but won't crack the bottles from the heat.

I've used oxi no-rinse for two years now, after use I always give a quick rinse with cold tap water straight from the tap and have never had a batch get contaminated.
