I'm being relocated from the states to Dublin for a 2-5 year work position, I don't know where for sure but I think I'll be in D4 area. I brew here in the US and I'm excited to continue my brewing in Ireland. I've done extract kits and am now venturing into all-grain.
I do have some questions for you all, I'm looking to bring most of my gear with me and would like to make adapters with items here if I can. What are the thread sizing on your propane and c02 tanks? What kind of valves? I have patio stoves and corny pin lock kegs, shipping things in isn't an issue - just want to try and be prepared so I don't have to purchase too much there.

If your going to be in the D4 area of Dublin you can meet up with fellow brewers from either capital brewers or South Dublin brewers. Check the sub forums section of the club section. I am a member of South Dublin brewers and we geneerally meet once a month in a pub called the Dark horse in a place called Blackrock. Your most welcome to attend.

There are people using gas but most brew with electric kettles because of our lovely windy weather. It is pricey enough for kegging items so I'd bring more than you might need instead of trying to track them down here at inflated prices.
Greetings Lurch! You'll be very welcome at the South Dublin Brewers meets. We're the smallest NHC club in Dublin but that doesn't stop us producing top quality (and award-winning!) beer.
Ireland's craft beer scene is exploding at the moment, and as a homebrewer, I'm sure you'll find it very exciting. The Dark Horse in Blackrock is part of a small chain of pubs which regularly stocks such American brands as Founders, Goose Island, Sierra Nevada (naturally), Stone, Bear Republic etc. Just in case you're feeling a bit homesick.. :)
I'm not a kegger myself, so I wouldn't be best placed to answer your questions, but I'd agree with Rossa that you definitely want to transport your kegs as they can cost an absolute fortune in the LHBS here. Ball-lock would be more common in Ireland, but disconnects etc. for pin lock are also readily available.

Propane gas bottles here use a special push-fit connection/valve which are easily available, the connections after that are generally hosebarbs (about 1/2" I think) that you can clamp a hose onto using a jubilee clip. If you have a threaded propane connection on your gas burner/stove/etc it would be worth your while getting a adaptor to convert this to a hosebarb before you bring it with you.
I don't use CO2 canisters myself but the standard thread here is BSP, whereas yours would be NPT and for pressurised fittings they're not compatible. You can get NPT/BSP adaptors here but not that easily (if you do a search on the equipment forum here for NPT or BSP you'll get a lot of info), but if you could get some over there before you come over it would be easier, shipping from the states to here is very expensive.
Hello all, based in Drumcondra myself. I appear to have missed out on the north capital meet-up, a newcomer to homebrewing but with the help of a couple of friends more experienced hope to start out soon.

I have heard it can get a little windy there - do pop-ups with a side wall help at all?
For you electric folk - are you using pre-built kettles or just slapping a heater element into the side of a 1/2 bbl keg?

Plastic bucket with heating elements would be the norm here I'd say. :P
