Title: National Homebrew Day 4th Oct
Post by: johnrm on August 28, 2014, 12:00:51 PM
I'm up for doing a brew and samples in Midleton - probably Mad Monk.
I could do a Kit and All Grain side by side, maybe do the kit while I'm waiting for the Mash!

What about Cork City?

Have you times and a date for this one JM?

I'm talking to Ronan in Bierhaus. Looking like Sat at about 1:30pm but unconfirmed. Kit beer and samples.
Might do another batch in Mad Monk at 4pm, another kit and samples.
All tentative.

2 gigs in Cork.

Bierhaus.
Kit brew demo, samples and discussion at 1.30 Sat 4th. Should take 1hr or just over.
Craft range wheat beer will be dry hopped a la hopfenweiss.
The beer brewed will be served for donations to charity at the bar a few weeks later.

Mad Monk.
Kit brew demo, samples and discussion at 3.30 Sat 4th. Should take 1hr or just over.
Not sure what beer yet, maybe a stout.
To be served on cask for charitable donations a few weeks later.

Have you checked with Revenue that the charitable donation piece is kosher from an excise perspective? Might be an idea.

How's about a meet up - I see some of the other clubs are doing this in around this time.

Absolutely Mr. H, and bring along some tasters too.
A big part of this is about showing people that its a fun and sociable thing to do.
Swap/Taste/Discuss is an important part of the activity.

Let me know who's available for either of the Cork sessions.
So far, both Gigs will be Kit owing to time constraints.
I'm bringing all my AG gear, its starting to get fond of my car.

If we have additional bodies, we could do a mock up of a small batch (even 2.5l)
Mill some malt, mash to 67C for 5 mins, boil it, pop in hops for 5 mins, cool it, and throw in some old yeast.
This will be going down the drain, so just enough to show the process.

Hi John, barring anything unexpected I can probably lend a hand at the bierhaus if you need it.
I dont have anything ready for tasting but I could knock up a yeast starter or 5L batch of something to show what an active fermentation looks like if you think that was any use?

Great homebrew demonstration in the Bierhaus, thanks very much! Nice to see quite a few people interested, how did the Midleton session turn out?

Thanks Josher.
The Midleton one only had 2 noobs which was disappointing  but made up for as established lads were there.
I have a batch of kit stout fermenting from it!
