The summer session beer brewed by Rascals will be at the RDS this weekend. Had a friend do up a very cool label for it!
It's pale malt, 10% wheat, wakatu hops, belle saison yeast and the juice, zest and peel of lemons.
( The observant among you will notice it says 4.2% - my beer was 4.07% and Rascals one dropped another point probably due to better yeast care and a slightly tweaked recipe).
I won't make it until Saturday but let me know what you think of it.
P.S. The NHC may get threats from North Korea over the label. I apologize in advance.
Should be in the Norseman this weekend too but I don't know for sure what day. Galway people, hold on some is on it's way!

Instead of the zest of 140 lemons like the original recipe called for, a kilo of lemon peel was boiled for 15 mins. The peel instead of zest added some extra bitterness, but not a huge amount. 12 lemons were squeezed and the juice and the rest of the lemon were thrown in after the boil too.
It's not exactly the same as the comp version but it's not very far off at all.

Aren't peel and zest essentially the same thing? Or are you talking about candied peel?

2014 seems to be the year of the saison, I think I counted 5 saisons last night. Last year, I think Dungarvan brewed the only saison in attendance.

No, zest is the yellow outer part of the skin only which is loaded with lemon flavour, about 1mm thick. Peel both the white and yellow part of the skin, the white part being less lemony and very bitter and being about another 4mm thick. It was impossible to buy just zest when I searched for it, could only get a kilo of dried peel from France via amazon.

Funnily enough, I was in NK on holidays last month and there was two beers being brewed in our hotel bar!!! (Hotel Koryo).
Their dark beer was fantastic!! It was 1.40euro a pint which was 9 times the price the locals would pay, but it's illegal for foreigners to use local currency.
