Title: Any group buys for glass pint bottles in Dublin?
Post by: NormanBrew on September 09, 2014, 05:36:46 PM
Hey guys

I am just looking at the price of glass bottles (pint) and the difference is huge when you buy large quantities. I need about 50 per week and I am based in Dublin.

Would anybody be interested in a group order to pay less?

I am new to the forum so maybe I posted it in the wrong section, in case, anybody knows where shall I go?

Thanks guys,
I'll post more info on the price tonight, I'm in work now...

Befriend a barman in a local craft beer pub & you will probably get enough bottles.

Hi Shanna, that's actually what I've done so far but it's just a bit of a pain in the a** to wash them (and remove the label and glue) when you have to fill them as well... So anyway, if anybody wants to buy any in common, I'm here! (I still have to put up the prices, I have worked like a dog lately, will do at the weekend...). Thanks guys

For all the reasons above, I'm moving onto kegs. Life is too short for bottling beer :)

Thanks a million Shanna, that's an amazing website! They're really cheap for small quantities compared to others!

@molc: I know it's painful but I just can't beat that lovely feeling of holding a good bottle of your own beer... 🍺🍺🍺🍻

Hehe. Well my plan is to make 20L batches. 18 goes in the keg and 2 goes in bottles for bringing to meets etc. Best of both worlds. Plus I'm happy enough cutting out 4 - 6 labels, not the 40-60 I do a batch right now :P

Do you find 18l kegs or do you use some 5l ones? I know the special draft for the small ones but how much would an installation cost to pour from bigger kegs? Sorry for the questions, just sounds quite interesting!

No worries. I'm organising a group buy right now for the 18L kegs from germany. You can see all the detail here: http://www.nationalhomebrewclub.com/forum/index.php/topic,7422.0.html. Also my forum sig has the cots for a system. OVerall, for a 2 keg system, with taps, co2 and regulator, you're looking at around €250-€300, plus maybe an old fridge for cooling it. PErsonally, I won't be cooling coming into the winter, but I'll probably be picking up something in the summer along those lines.

As for the 5L systems, I actually did a review of them here: http://www.nationalhomebrewclub.com/forum/index.php/topic,7048.0.html

Ah OK thanks! I can't really join the group buy now as I just invested in more equipment but that's great! If you can send pictures once your installation is done, that would be very interesting!

I am pretty sure that the flatmates would be into it anyway... 😉
