Title: IPA fest / 25th Oct 2014: REGISTRATION NOW OPEN!

Registration for the IPA Fest is now open. 



Please pay your entry fees via paypal to:  IPAfest@gmail.com  No need to send as a gift. We will accept the paypal fees.


In the paypal payment comments section can you type:

Name:  Your name
Email:  Your email address
Homebrew Club:  Your club name if you are a member of one
Beer name & style: 14A English IPA, 14B American IPA, 14C Double IPA, 23 Speciality IPA (please note what is special in process, ingredients, abv, etc)
ABV: % alcohol
IBU: Estimated bitterness units if you know them


Once you have registered your beer entry you will receive an email within 48 hours with a pdf file. This file will have your entry number & beer category details on it. You will need to print this, cut out the labels & attach one label to each bottle with a rubber band.

Drop points will be announced soon as well as a postal address for anyone who wants to mail entries.

What's the story with this competition. I registered last week but I didn't get a confirmation so I sent an email to IPAFest@gmail.com but no one has gotten back to. I also sent a DM to whoever set up this thread but still no one's been back on to me. Is this normal?

The brewing gods have conspired against me for the last few weeks so I will only be submitting one entry to this. So one less label to type up for you Hop Bomb. I'll have to withdraw my american ipa (14B)  as there's no way it will be ready on time. My DIPA is coming along nicely tho  :)
I'll pm aswell incase you miss this post HB. I dont want to take an entry spot that another brewer could use.

Just wondering is it too late to change category?  Reckon it could be marked down for style and I'm starting to lean towards a 14A English IPA now more so than a 14B American IPA as originally entered.

Just change the category on the beer label you've been sent. Pen or marker is fine - just cross out the category thats been typed on the label already. Thanks

Anyone awaiting their confirmation email & labels (just 3 or 4 of you I think) they'll be sent this weekend. Thanks for your patience.

We will be taking delivery of a stainless steel mesh dry hopper from stainless brewing USA next week. This will be the prize for BOS along with other bits & bobs. Lots of other deadly prizes too. St.Fursey will post the list of goodies up for grabs soon.

They'll be in the cellar with all the kegs Id imagine. Doubt they'd be in the cold room. They'll be chilled when they get to Galway on Thur & kept chilled until they are judged.

I went in to drop some bottles to the Abbott's Ale House and the guy downstairs in the off license had no idea what I was on about.
So I went up to the bar and the staff there hadn't heard of the competition.

Can someone please clarify if they're to go to the bar or offie, and who's the point of contact in there?

No sign of mine yet either. Given that my drop off point is only accepting until next Tuesday and that I won't be anywhere near it after the weekend I'm a bit concerned. Is there a Plan B if these don't show up by Friday?

Just wondering what's the craic with feedback if you can't make it to Galway next weekend? Will we get anything emailed back or?

I was originally planning in heading across for the day, looks like a good day you've planned but I have a family gig on now instead   :'( :'(


Also, I'm very paranoid that one of my entries may have gotten mixed up with a peanutbutter imperial red ale I made around the same time... I had them in separate boxes but when I went to open a bottle the other week believing it to be an IPA, it turned out to be the red.. I'm pretty sure it was a once off mistake and the 2 bottles for this entry I handed in are IPA but I suppose just to give you a heads up. If it comes out garnet red with no hop aroma, don't bother drinking it (unless you fancy a break from IBUs)

All labels have been emailed. If you havent got yours can you send me your email address & I can search for the paypal payment.

If you cant make the drop point we accept entries by post. Mail them to the Galway Bay Brewery address in one of my previous posts.

@Hingo - If it is a mix up Il have the judges score it for you anyway.

Re: Score sheets: We wont be mailing any back as our budget wont allow for it. We got 2.45e I think off each entry with a good chunk of that gone on prizes & the rest going on food for judges & stewards on the day. What I can do is email you back a high quality pic of your score sheet. DO NOT SEND EMAILS ASKING WHERE YOUR SCORESHEET IS! This is a competition run by homebrewers with full time jobs/kids/life & any comp admin is done in what little time we have to spare. We also live in Galway & things run at a different pace here so please be patient.

Just wondering what goes on at the event itself, probably heading down from Dublin for the day, did think the event starts at 3 but now see it's at 12. Would like to have a drink or two so will probably get the gobus, last one leaves at 7 so that should leave plenty of time?

Details of the venue, The Commercial Boat Club

The bar won't be open on the day, as it's a fairly old school bar devoid of craft we decided to go without.
Instead we can bring our own and as Tom mentioned there will be homebrew on tap for spectators to sample. Also if people want to bring a bottle or two of their latest and greatest brews for others to taste and a good chat of all things homebrew feel free!
I'll have tea, coffee and biscuits on offer too for anyone on the dry.

It promises to be a good day out so pop in, introduce yourselves, have a drop and a chat, Galway HomeBrewers are looking forward to meeting everyone!

It is indeed Leech. I was hungover on Sunday typing that. Guitarist in my band is Jonathan lynch.

Pretty confident this will be an annual event. Nothing set in stone but we all were pretty happy with how it went. It was great to have the travelling judges there as they have all had lots of experience running and judging comps. Thanks guys!

They're all scanned but are illegible. Pencil didnt scan well at all. Those that have emailed me about have been told that. I didnt bother updating here as Id forgotten about it tbh. (As a club we are busy organising the Galway leg of the Nationals). We only got 2.45e per entry & all the money was spent on prizes. We dont have money to mail them out to people. Apologies for the delay guys. The sheets are still with a fellow member who kindly scanned them for me. Never picked them up since then. Scanned score sheets for the most part are unreadable. They'll all get sent or emailed very soon. Another member has kindly offered to handle this task. Thanks for your patience.

Score sheets gone out/going out by email at the moment. As mentioned we had some issues with legibility, and tried a couple of different scanners. The judges pencil marks can be difficult to read even when scanned on dark/ hi res setting.

Hopefully knowing brewing lingo and knowing your own entry ye'll be able to get enough of the judges comments to be helpful. If you'd like your original score sheets please send SAE to the address in the email and we'll get them back to you. For those that already sent SAEs, we'll get them to you. Thanks for your patience!
