Title: louth club?
Post by: danger_zone on September 26, 2014, 07:25:12 PM
anybody here from the Louth area who'd like to see a North East club.it would be great to get a meet going so we can exchange advice, recipes, brews and talk all things homebrew till the cows come home without our wives/girlfriends rolling their eyes up at the mere mention of the word sparging.

i live in Dundalk, there's a few good pubs here we could probably do it in but if more people seem to be from the Drogheda area then we could meet there or even alternate, but we'll worry about the logistics later.

so, numbers time

Dundalk for me too.

great.thats a majority.Dundalk it is

i'll ask around a few bars and see if they're cool with it.i'd imagine they'd be hard pushed to let us share/sample each others brews in their place but hopefully we can get someone who doesn't mind.(if anybody from another club is reading this maybe some advice on how ye got round this would be helpful.i'd imagine there was a promise of buying a minimum amount of drinks or something)

any particular days of the week that yis can/can't do.i'd suggest sometime during the week on one of their quiter nights,a tuesday or so

Fair play lads, we're getting the Meath club up and running at the moment. Your more than welcome to come down on the 7th to have a chat

I suppose find a bar that sells decent beer and food and you can kinda say well we'll need a certain amount of sausages n chips and we'll buy some beers too in between tasting. Thats the approach i've taken with Central and they're delighted, wouldn't be much else going on midweek i suppose.

not a lot of pubs down our way do food and there's only 2 pubs that would be considered 'craft' bars

but i'll try and get down to the spirit store later lads and see if mark (the owner) is there and have a wee chat with him about it if he's in

was in the spirit store tonight.mark loved the whole idea of it and what we're trying to do.and he was chuffed that i came to him first and not another pub but he was a bit reservational about the whole 'sampling our own drinks in front of other patrons thing' but he said we could probably work something out.he has my number so we'll probably be in correspondance over the next while to sort something out

btw he has a lovely ale on cask.afaik its the only cask in louth.i even got to pour a pint for myself

Hi

Yes Spirit store is an excellent location so when are we meeting?
Title: Re: louth club?
Post by: danger_zone on October 02, 2014, 11:48:44 AM
i can most most nights.we could arrange a meet up next week or the week after.when would suit most folk?

that being said, until i get the go-ahead that we can take our own brews for samples we'll just have to limit ourselves to drinking the pubs beer and just chatting about all our nerdy beer talk but at least it'll be a start.(anyway my newest batch won't be ready for another 2-3 weeks)

I'm free most evenings from Monday - Thursday. As long as the date is published well in advance I can shuffle around my commitments.

Somewhat similar to Danger_brew I have no homebrew to offer, only disconnected pieces of stainless steel and my wife's tut tuts. I'm hoping the club will spur me on.

I would think something like a Tuesday night would be good as pub would be quiet.

I have a couple of different homebrews to let people taste, I think this is good for everyone to get some feedback on their brews.

Looking forward to a meetup.

Hi

can we pick a date and location? Monday is the only night that is not good for me.
I have a few brews that can be used for samples also
north county are meeting next tue 14th I usually go up there but the drive is a killer.
do we think we will be meeting in the near future?

I'm unavailable this week but any day next week or rest of October suits me, The Spirit Store is a great spot, I'm sure Mark wouldn't mind us tasting our own beers as long as we were buying pints aswell :)

i'm good for any night next week except wednesday.

i'm still waiting to hear back from mark about whether we can take our own samples.i hope he wasn't just fobbing me off or something last week.if anyone wants to drop in and ask him again before we meet up then feel free.i won't be about this week to be able to pop in

the only other bar with half decent beer we could meet up in would be the beerkeeper (bar tender) but i wouldn't hold my breath about them letting us take samples in there

HI

I have talked to danger_zone about where to meet and he asked me to Propose Soraghan pub on the ardee road 1 mile from the motorway 5 miles from dundalk they are happy to host us and let us bring in our own samples for tasting they are going to get some craft beers in for us to buy if we wish. The owner is very intrested in the area of craft beers and brewing he is happy to have us any night except Saturday.
So I propose any night at this location next week my preference is next Friday the 17th
please let me know your thoughts?

Aye Friday suits me. My prefered days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays but i can do Fridays too (plus my IPA should be ready on the 17th)

So i guess its voting time again. We'll go with the majority (we can always change the day of the week for our subsequent meets to whatever suits)

All in favour of Soraghans pub Friday the 17th raise your virtual hands

1. danger_zone ('baron von something' on boards.ie) also (stephen) - i'll take an IPA

I'll try to make it down Friday lads, would preferably favor the Spirit Store but what ever works for the Majority :) Its 10Euro taxi each way to Soraghans from Dundalk, so maybe we could organise Taxi Sharing :)

Hi guys.  Drawda man here.  Started brewing last year with some success and some learning mistakes.  I've done wine kits for the wife (and me) and beer kits for me.  I've moved onto extract kits and am hoping to make the move to all grain soon.  Would love to be a part of this club but unfortunately won't be able to make it on Friday.  I'll be up to meet you's again at the next meeting.
By the way, my idea for a name for the club is 'Wee Brewers Club'.  Kinda gets you thinking!  :P
