Title: Coopers Heritage Lager - Question
Post by: darren996 on October 26, 2014, 05:25:31 PM
Hi All

Noob here, I put together my second kit,  Coopers heritage lager on Thursday evening.  There was about an inch of krausen upto this morning when I checked it.  Now the krausen is more or less gone.  The strong fermenting smell has all but gone, and I am getting nothing out of the bubbler, wasn't getting too much out from the start...

I followed the instructions to the letter, added extract and lme, got the temp down and pitched the yeast at 22 degrees and there has been about a half degree in temperature variation since then.  Is my batch screwed... anyone got any experience with this one.

Thanks

Darren

Sounds perfect to me. Each yeast does it's own thing. Even without much bubbling it will be working away cleaning up, so just keep going with your normal plan and it'll be fine.

Thanks molc, just panicking a bit as I am not seeing much action on the bubbler.  I will keep going. I broke my glass trial and waiting on another.  I poured a bit there and it has a nice frothy head, no off taste or sweetness.  The kit says to wait 8 days. Panic over... for a while..

Thanks again.

no bothers there, but leave it another week before bottling to let it clean itself up a bit :)

Until something proves me wrong, I've just settled down into giving 3 weeks in primary Nd then racking to the bottling bucket or secondary, depending on how I'm conditioning.

if you have the patience, use it. It's the most important ingredient  ;)

Have this in the FV for two weeks now at a steady 16 degees.  Gravity reading  today was around 1050 still very cloudy but quite a head on it in the trial jar. Temp has dropped a bit in the last 48 hours. Thinking of covering it up a bit and using the brew belt on a timer to stop it going any lower and giving it till next weekend before bottling.

2 weeks and the gravity is 1.050? That doesn't sound right. What was your OG?

Three weeks in the FV and still seriously murky. Smells and tastes fine but.

if it's reached final gravity, bottle it.

Bottled it two nights ago, cleared up loads in the last few days. How long should I keep the bottles warm for carbonation?

Ah, that maybe the problem with my peters ruby red tasted it last night after nearly 4 weeks in the bottle. Tasted lovely but wasnt very carbonated. Only kept it warm for maybe 5 or 6 days before putting it in unheated room.

If I warm them up for another week should that kick off fermentation again or will the yeast have died?

thanks
