Title: Adnam's 'Ghost Ship' sails into Aldi
Post by: Parky on October 28, 2014, 07:45:20 PM
I'm constantly surprised by the 'limited stock' beers that grace the shelves of Aldi and Lidl from time to time. Was in my local Aldi today and spotted Adnam's 'Ghost Ship' pale ale for 1.99 euro (50cl bottle).

A little too bitter for my tastes, but some nice hopping in there, and at that price it's worth a whirl if you haven't tried it before. Perfect for Halloween - mmm spooky  :P

Damn Aldi, I'm impressed. Just had this on cask for the first time yesterday and really enjoyed it.

Yeah, 'Ghost Ship' recently started appearing in branches of Winemark up here. I was a bit scared to go near it at first, but then it was discovered (by a porno director, his leading actress, their frumpy secretary, their homeless friend and his big brown canine sidekick), that the 'Ghost Ship' was a fabricated deterrent by Diageo to scare punters away from the laughably small area of shelf  devoted to craft beer, in favour of the 6-foot-high pallets of Carlsberg in the middle of the shop floor.

They would have gotten away from it too if it hadn't been for my pesky intolerance for shite.

Not a huge fan of Adnan's stuff normally, but I must say I was impressed by Ghost Ship. A lot less bland than Broadside, IMHO.

Winemark have started stocking McGrath's (1,2 and 5, IIRC) and, at the risk of being shot down in flames for being unpatriotic, I've been disappointed overall.

Wouldn't dream of dissing you for not liking McGrath's - I'd never even heard of it!!!  :-[ And what's with the numbers on the front of the bottles - reminds me of Ralph Lauren's 'Big Pony' aftershave - they're beers, not race horses goddammit  :)

To be fair though, Norn Irn is pretty sweet when it comes to the availability and range of beers. I took a trip up recently to buy lots of fireworks check out Newry Ocktoberfest, and was very impressed by the offering in Sainsburys - only in my dreams did Leffe Blonde come in 750ml bottles at 2 for a fiver  ;)

Ghost Ship is back on sale in Aldi at the mo along with another one or two Adnam beers. €2.19 a bottle I think it is
