Anyone else interested in buying some Jester hops? They are the new UK hop that are supposed to give the strong fruity US hops a bit of competition. I'm going to put in an order, but need to get over £25 worth, to get free UK shipping, and then via parcel motel, and probably only want approx 300g myself. They are quite expensive at £6 per 100g so that's approx €7.70 per 100g, but they are supposed to be very nice.

2014 Jester is a new hop that has come out of the Charles Faram breeding program. We have very limited quantities so when it's gone, it's gone! This variety has a hugely intense flavour with wild American tropical fruit aromas. The aroma notes are grapefruit, lychees and blackcurrant.
Alpha acid: 6.92%
Beta acid: 4-6%
Co-Humulone: 23-28%
Total oils: 0.6-1.2%
Myrcene: 45-50%
Humulene: 2%
Farnesene: 0.1-0.2%
Sounds interesting, I'd like to give them a go :)

would it be easier to do by price instead of weight?
They're going to be weighed anyway, so no difference in packing ~130g for a tenner (100g for €7.70 = 13g for €1 = 130g for €10) instead of 100g for somewhere around €7.70.
It'd save you getting my shitchange jar dumped on your round table.
I'll help you weigh etc again if you want, and i won't even make you come rescue me and syphon petrol this time (probably)
either way, I'll take 100g or a tenner's worth :)

They are coming in 100g packs, so that is why I am pricing per 100g. Bring a €10 note, and I can give you change!
I might take another 100g one but not in Cork city very much. Where and when can I meet you to hand over the tenner?
I'll be on time then.
They sound interesting. If you'se don't sell them all I can take 100g if postage to Donegal isn't too much?

The minimum to get free UK shipping is 600g, so we are just above that already, and I'm not really keen to start posting items, as would prefer to keep things local. Sorry. If I end up with any leftover, will keep you in mind.

I'm based in Blarney and work in Ballincollig, and am not in town much either. If you can make it to one of the meetups at the Fran Well, that's probably the best place to hand over.

I've had 5kg of hops delivered to parcel motel before, so we should be okay. I'm going to cap this at 1kg, so we should be grand even considering the extra packaging for 100g sizes.

That's 1.3Kg it total, so I am capping the order at that. I'm hoping to put the order in today, so hopefully they will ship early next week.

Nah, no issue. I was trying to keep it predominantly local, but saw you post your interest for Jester on twitter a while back, so knew you might be interested. I can manage to move a couple of packs outside of Cork, but didn't want it getting too complicated, but we should be grand.
Ok, the hops have landed, so are ready to be collected or posted. Can oblivious and Irish goat send me on their addresses and I will see how much to post. If anyone else wants them posted, send me your address
For the local lads, you can either pick them up from me in Ballincollig during the day, or Grenagh in the evening, or I can post up here when I will be passing through the city over the next while. Alternatively, I can have them for the next meetup, although I don't think we nailed down a date yet.
I will double check the cost, and can then PM my paypal/bank details for payment.
I haven't opened any yet, as want to keep them fresh, so will hopefully get a brew on Friday.
Let me know if you have any questions.

First of all thank you so much.
Second, I can come to Ballincollig if you want as the bus from Carrigaline goes to Ballincollig now.
I will be in the city this Sunday so can meet you in the city as well.
Whatever is most convenient for you.
Thanks Taf, I can collect from ballincollig anytime during the week.
Ok, Oblivious and Irish goats hops have gone in the post today. I've posted them via work, so they need to come back to me with the cost, so will let you know once confirmed.

I don't think I will be around the City on Sunday, but will let you know if I am. I will keep some hops in work, and if I don't catch up with you over the weekend, you can collect from Ballincollig next week. Alternatively based on cost of bus versus post, I could post them to you?

Just got the price back from the mail room, €3.30 per package which seems absolutely extortionate! Not sure if there are any better options, and have a feeling that they have gone now anyway. Sorry about that lads.

Completely forgot about this Taf, if you're going to the meet up on Friday would you mind bringing them with you.
For me too!
Has anyone brewed with them yet? Mine are still in the freezer :(

Brewed with them last weekend, so will probably dry hop in the next day or so. They have a nice aroma to them, but don't think they pack enough punch, compared to some other hops I have used recently. I was hoping they would be a bit greener/fresher and more sticky, considering the farm fresh element of the sale, and the cost of them, but will take a sample tonight to confirm.
Hi Taf - if you do make it on friday I'll pay for mine.
Anyone coming along tomorrow night who wants me to sort them out let me know by PM, or direct.

Yes, will do.
No problem dcalnan.
Anyone else?
Got mine, thanks!
I don't suppose anyone has a spare 500g of crystal that I could use for a brew? I forgot to add it to my mash tun parts last week.
I'll sort you out.
Pm me mobile no. Etc
Anyone else brew with these yet, and if so, what do you think? I know oblivious did, as saw something on twitter, but not sure what he though of them. I tapped a keg yesterday, and while it's not fully carbed yet, it's a nice fruity drop of beer. Not sure they are worth how much we paid for them though.

Crystal is the malt of the devil! >:D Wouldn't touch it myself!
I dont know, a bit of Crystal in a porter or Amber is a lovely flavour in my mind...

Oh definitely for darker beers, I meant for pale ales/IPA's, but didn't make that clear.
In that case what would you recommend? I have biscuit, Munich and aromatic malt. Got them for a Belgian I have to get around to. I'm going for a English ipa with the jester, it's extract so I'm only using the grains for steeping.
Crystal would be fairly traditional for an English IPA, so don't mind me, and go with it. Think you would get some character steeping it, but not sure about the other malts.
No PM yet.
What part of the world are you in DC? I get the train these days from Midleton to cork.
I stuck an American Pale Ale on with 50g of Jester hops in it. They smelt decent enough going in anyway. :)
