Hi All

Thinking doing the craft wheat beer kit for my next brew, but before I make 23 litres of it I would like to try something similar.
Has any one made this kit and if so could they compare it to a  beer that I could buy in the off licence.  I see O'hara's has a wheat beer called Curim.

Any suggestions would be most welcome

I've made it, although I threw 300g of roasted malt into it to make it more similar to Schneider Weisse. Curim is more of a "wheat ale" than a German style hefeweizen.  I would say it would come out similar to Franziskaner or Paulaner. Fermentation temp is a big deciding factor in how it turns out as well though.   

Either way, I had a very good beer come out of it and it went down well with random punters I shared it with.

Definitely give Erdinger a go as well, although it is more what I would call a "gateway" wheat beer. It's a much lighter wheat beer than the rest of the Bavarian ones we get here and is brewed to appeal more to North German (and international) drinkers. The Mrs used to drink it before she started going out with me and is now annoyed that I've "ruined it for her" since introducing her to Schneider Weisse and Weihenstephaner.  :P

Just curios as to what stage did you added roasted malt and what effect this gives, total noob so the more info I get the better.

I have 2 of these and the results are pretty good.
I made a dog's dinner of the first one, added hot water instead of cold, the beer was good initially, all the flavors and aromas you would expect, but it started to go bad. Not the fault of the kit!
The second kit is carbonating in a keg. Jury's out on this one!

Thanks JohnRm, going to try out a few over the weekend and if I like them I will purchase this kit.  Did you hack your kits or did you go with the standard kit ?

You want to watch that. My missus used to drink Coors Light til I ruined her with Cantillon. Expensive mistake.

The first one was as God intended.
The second one has 70g Saaz dry hop.

I have this in the bottles 2 weeks. 
I've tasted a few for QC purposes - plenty of banana.  I think it'll work out great.

I'd give franziskaner a go, I think it'll compare way better than Curim (which for me, one bottle ages ago, was way wide of the mark).  At minimum you'll know if you like banana.  If you do, go for it.

No hacks, fermented at 22C.  Only a few brews under the belt, it was fool proof and LordEoin's How to Kit Brew post is worth its weight in gold.

It brewed out very quick and it stayed about a week FG before I bottled.

Used http://www.homebrewdad.com/priming_sugar_calculator.php to figure out the carbonation.
I went for 3% cause I like wheat with fizz.

Thanks Gearoid. I picked up a couple of bottles of franz on the way home and have em in yhe fridge for later on.  This will be my third go at a kit. Yeah lordEoins guide is very good i followed that as well. Thanks for the link, my first brew finished out under carbed so i will have a look at the calculator.

I like wheat beers the odd time..but the sweeter ones, not so much. Can anyone recommend a style that's not so sweet?

Hi bigvalen try erdringer. franziskaner was a bit too bananna sweet for me. Tried schneider weisse last night and enjoyed it. Erdinger Kristal was crisp with a very slight after taste of bananna.. lager drinkers would enjoy this one
