Title: Dry hopping
Post by: jackflash on November 19, 2014, 11:40:05 AM
I'm about to dry hop for the first time, and after reading about the different methods for doing it, I'm leaning towards the most simple; chucking the hop pellets straight into the primary fv. Any advice about this?

I just throw the pellets into the primary 5-7 days before I'm due to bottle. Works grand everytime.  :)

Nice one. Thanks, think that'll be the way I'll go too.

i normally use a muslin bag weighed down with marbles.
i used to chuck them in loose, but this way results in less bits sticking to the FV or making it to bottle.
I aim for 3-5 days

But the little bits that do make it into the bottle are great for head retention  ;)

I don't get any hops debris in the bottle after cold crashing. I just chuck the pellets in the carboy. Timing I'm still experimenting with.

With my current batch I'm gonna try adding half the dry hop right at the end of primary fermentation, while there is still a fair bit of activity and then the other half 4 or 5 days before kegging.
