Hey Ladz,
I woz sent a coopers wheat beer kit for Xmas 😄, bit early but still happy to have recieved it....
My current brew is still in FV nd therefore hav big time to decide what I am goin to create.
I been happy with my kit brews for basic beer but like to up the game a bit nd woz thinking of creating the following as per the title.
I would like to get some input from you guyz as this will be a medium/heavy kit hack nd rather not do it blind.
So it's coopers wheat beer kit but this what I will be adding or changing to create my kit hack.
Using the following:
LME Wheat Malt - (used wheat spray malt last time nd wasn't really happy with results)
Danstar German wheat yeast ( medium-high attenuation but top fermenting) classic banana notes
Wheat Cara Grain Crushed (looking for nice Carmel Flavour with the banana- could this be disaster?)
Bruphoria finishing hops (Polaris) - create slight bittering too offset all sweetness I've incorporated but intrested in its fruity aroma notes )
All help is greatly appreciated
Slainte 😄
i probably wouldn't bother with the polaris but it'll be nice if you go with it.
I presume the Danstar German wheat yeast is WB06, that'll give you the banana when fermented high (over 23C)
Hey Lordeoin,
Cheers for getting bk to me...
The yeast doesn't give a specific code it just says Danstar Munich wheat beer yeast .... I did read before higher temp gives lot more banana Flavour which I am looking for....
I thought the Polaris finishing hops would help offset the shear sweetness..... I do like a bit of bitterness....
Regarding the Wheat cara malt , should I stick crushed or use whole ??
oh yeah, danstar is the munich and fermentis is the WB06.
munich ferments out cleaner with a bit less clove and banana, but it'll rocket through fermentation at about 17C +
finishing hops won't add much bitterness (if any) as there's no boil. Their purpose is to add aroma.
get whole or crushed malt, you'll be crushing them for the steep anyway.
Cheers Lordeoin,
Big help as always :D... Much appreciated
Hey Guyz,
So I am just aboug to start my coopers wheat beer nd as above have bought sum Wheat Cara malt Grain....
I bought 500gr nd woz hoping somebody could tell me how much I should use for this coopers wheat beer kit ??
I be steeping in 6ltr hot water for 30 min....
If you mean Carawheat, then i'd probably stick around the 250g mark.
It'll add some extra colour to your beer.
if you don't have a mill, get some sandwich bags, put the grain in in small amounts, smash it with a rolling pin or beer bottle.
2 or 3 liters will be fine for the steep, and don't have the water too hot or you might extract more than you want (max ~65).
Then strain the liquid, discard the grain and boil the liquid for 5-10 minutes.
If you have about 3 liters of boiling steep water it's perfect for cleaning out your cans and dissolving the kit goop and any other fermentables. Also once you've topped up to 23L with cold water you should be close to a good pitching temperature.
Stop at about the 20L mark to see judge where your temperature will be and adjust with boiling water if needed.

And de Ealth and safety paeple who are reading dis would like to add dat LordEoin does not mean dat you take the beer bottle and bate the crap out of the small bag of grains but roll it over dem with a pair of mittons on in case you brake de bottle. P.S. Ealth and safety lads skipped the scool part that taute to rite proper :P
yes, change smash to crush ;)
Hey Ladz,
Thank for the help nd health safety tips lol the grain woz ordered crushed already so no fear of injury this time...
I stick with 3 ltr if this is best, 250gr will add sum colour you mentioned Lordeoin but I would also like extract the caramel flavour plus extra fermentable sugars to hopefully increase AbV %....
Could you giv me sum extra guidance please ??
Slainte 😄
the steep will extract all that too, don't worry :)
Just go for it!
