Just wondering if there is any interest/need for a group order of hop rhizomes.
I'm looking at getting a few and thought id ask
I'd be on for that Kev. That makes two.
I have some Fuggles rhizomes which I thought I had promised to someone, and thinking it was Padraic have just found out its not.
I have no idea how many at this point as I need to pull them out of a pot and so on, but can bring them up to the competition in 2weeks.
Count me in for some hop rhizomes, have a nice recently dug, well-manured, sunny area with archway in place, which i was going to put raspberry canes in, but hops would be a preferred crop... ;)
Yep, put me down for this too.. Let me know when you're thinking and what you need to purchase.
If your looking to have hops delivered from the UK. then now is a good time to order!
Were in the middle of the bare root season at the moment, Bare root means that rhizomes can be shipped without soil or compost. (Cheaper shipping costs)
Some varieties might still be unavailable but I'd assume most will be soon enough.
EDIT:
just checked willingham nurseries.
most are available now, check for specific varieties,
Now is definitely the time to order. Bare rooted reduces shipping costs dramatically.
When you get them pop them into compost in pots and put outside in sheltered frost free spot, cool greenhouse or even indoors in a cool place. The weather should be Ok by about mid-March but hops are sturdy little beauties.
My new varieties from Eicklemann in Germany arrived two weeks ago and are looking great!
I got Cascade, Magnum, Saazer and the "dwarf" Gimmli to try. Cost for the 4 including postage €30.70
They also have varieties that Willingham don't.
I will be lifting my rhizomes as soon as its warm enough for me to go outside!!
Thanks for the info Will and Damo.
Lads there's four of us here. We could save on shipping going in together. Payday is at the end of the month for me. You happy getting them then? How do you suggest we put the order in?
I'm also interested in some rhizomes.
They run out of cascade :(

1.Ratsathome - 1x Saazer , 1x SmaragdGot sorted :-?
I think I'd be more inclined to grow the British varieties TBH. Don't brew enough German beers to make this worth while.
I'd still be on to purchase a good few from Willingham Nurseries.

Kev.. Is this list above the full extent of what's available? Where are these coming from? I'd be similar to Alex in looking for more British type hops, suit my taste and possibly easier to grow too given the climate.. (possibly cascade too though and amarillo)
Also just a thought but how will the distribution of all these hops work?.. For example, if I take delivery of a big box of hops, how do I distribute to guys in Dublin/Cork where ever else.... We'll spend as much on postage here as we've saved getting them from UK?.. Would a regional buy be better, then just swap rhizomes and cash at the monthly meet? Might be missing something on how these group buys work :)

really dont know what happened to this group buy????? a group buy is for people to buy, not too promote other freebies etc or swaps, so you either post your interest or not.
