Title: Coopers ginger beer info.
Post by: nigel_c on December 27, 2014, 12:45:56 PM
Got a can in a kris kindle over Christmas and have never had it before. Anyone have any experience with it? I'm thinking of hacking the arse out of it and using it along with some fresh mango in a nice spicy saison. Is the kit over powered with ginger or is it more of a background thing?

It's not particularly overpowered with ginger, but an extra pound of ginger and some chili fix that.
It is the only Coopers kit with artificial sweetener added and that fake sweetness is too much for my taste.
So remember, your saison will end up very sweet.

peel&dice your ginger, add the chili and boil in 2 o r3 liters of water for 10 minutes. Strain and use this hot water to wash out the can.
That's how i'd do it :)

Ginger is a bastard to chop. I would suggest you wash & grate it instead. Ginger is a very strong flavour so think long & hard about how much you use.

No thankfully its all gone, but the memory lingers & won't easily be forgotten :) Grating will expose more surface area to allow more flavour be released.

Did you just use the seeds?
I went with the Mangrove Jacks Ginger Beer kit in the end.

i just guess it with chili powder. a little goes a long way. it's just to give an edge back to the ginger burn
