Title: Brew_Diva January Brew Day TOG/ Old County Road Sat (17th Jan?)
Post by: Brew_Diva on January 04, 2015, 09:20:47 PM
Hi all, happy new year

So am planning my next (long time coming) brew for January. Do we have a date for TOG yet for Jan, Shiny?? 8)

Have 4 different hops in the freezer Summit, Cascade, Williamette and Amarillo (I think). Should also have 5 or 6 kg of Maris Otter and some darker stuff like Crystal 250 though I may need to check that.

So was hoping to use what's there. Might have to get in touch with Bren to lash in onto Beersmith for me which always feels like cheating. But I do think I could wing an IPA with that stuff. IBU would be the only thing to calculate.... Those elements still bemuse me a little  :(

Anyone with any suggestions for those ingredients I'd appreciate it. oh also yeast will be us05 am keeping it simple

I'm also inviting the Dublin Craft Beer Ladies. If TOG would be available for us which weekend would it be? I'm away to London the 23rd so that weekend would be out for me. If we're already going to have a brew day in January then that's perfect will just do my brew then. Probably easier, TOG probably handier too.. fyi disposable BBQs are going for very cheap in tesco at the minute!!

We don't know exactly which weekend yet but who's coming...?

IPA would be my vote, too.
Summit for bittering then Summit, Amarillo, and Cascade late should give you all sorts of citrus.
Speck of crystal for colour/balance, and Bob's your uncle.

Thornbridge Halcyon only uses 100% Maris Otter malt and no other for its beer then concentrates on the hops and wow do they do dat well :). Use the 6 kg  of malt and blend all your hops with 90% being used at the end. IBU's around 60/65 is what is in Halcyon with Jaibur around 50 IBU's. :) :)

Looks like it's going to be sat  17th  in TOG
Anyone else up for doing a brew there on the day?

I'll be there for the day, how does 10.30am sound to start? I have added it to the TOG calendar to some of those guys and gals can attend if they want as there had been quite a bit of interest previously.
