Title: Olga's Oregon Stout (the Homebrew company)
Post by: auralabuse on February 04, 2015, 09:53:24 PM
This was my first attempt at all grain and although I made some mistakes it was kegged and just had my first pint,  it's an outstanding stout and if your thinking of brewing a winter warmer have a look at this.  Defo one I will go back to time and time again

That stout was the last kit beer I did. Too much hops for a stout!

Is that the one I tried? That was a super American stout.

I don't find it very hoppy at all myself

Glad ye liked the stout. It is one of our oldest stout recipes but one of our best, if you like this style. Be interested to see what  people think of all our all grain recipe stouts. We now have four on the menu:

HBC Extra Irish Stout Mashkit (23 litres) 6.0%
HBC Irish Stout Mashkit (23 litres) 4.5%
HBC Olga's Oregon Stout (23 litres) 6.0%
HBC Particular Peter's Stout Mashkit (23 litres) 4.9%

I could offer these up for review or a stout off if anyone has any ideas or perhaps throw in FREE one with some orders above X amount for people  to try and  review. What do people think is the best idea?

You could do a stout off with the main Dublin clubs maybe? Each club brews one and then have a common meet up with taste and compare at the end :) Maybe a bit too ambitious but I think it could be a fun community activity.

Is that Peters a kit or grain?, Btw I cheated with the olga's Oregon,  I brewed 35 litres and added coopers kit  into the secondary,  I may have stumbled upon something as its a thing of beauty.  My lifetime stout drinking father is coming over to sample it tomorrow night though so it's about to have its sternest test

I've done your Irish Stout and Extra Irish Stout and thought they were both great. Lovely toasty, malty flavours, lots of coffee aroma, plenty of body and decent head retention. Slight hop bitterness but I wouldn't find too much coming across in aroma, which is to my taste.

I'm just after brewing my own stout recipe and these will be the benchmark that I judge my own against.

I have stuck the Particular Peter's Stout Mashkit into our weekly specials:

We will rotate a mash kit into this each week so no excuse now not to try  ;)

Just finishing off my keg of this,my first stout, but  one of the favourite things i've brewed, lovely roasty stout with a citrusy hoppy kick.
Quite unusual, but really good.

It's fantastic, best stout I have tasted. Brewing the extra stout this week, 6%, nice Xmas winter warmer. Was thinking of adding whiskey, anyone done this with a stout?
