Option 4: 4th April

Option 6: 18th April

Hi all - hoping to get a good date that suits everyone for a brewday/demo.
Maybe mid-March but I'll fire up some April dates in case March is too short notice.
Middle 2 dates suit me
Let me know ASAP and I will book it off if I can. Tanking a few days of in March think it around the 18th forward. What time of day ?
Ah bugger. Poll closed before I got a chance to vote.
If I have one miniscule imperfection it's my tardiness.
-Barry
Voted only to find out I've been bought flights to Luxembourg on one of the dates. Will just have to wait and see.
Argh forgot to vote also. 14th march or 4 th April suit best if it's not too late
Thanks Shano - might not be necessary. Think we'll just decide and pick a date the old fashioned way!
I'd love to go! Could only make April though so if it's March then I'll happily sit it out till the next one.

Does this involve a blindfold and a dart?
Or the typically Irish "wait and see" approach?
Gareth
Don't think the poll is that conclusive!
The 4th April is Easter weekend.
Maybe try again? Or hold a meet sometime in March, and plan for later in April?
What you lot think.......???????
I had a chat with Chris about this and we were thinking that April 25th might be the best contender from a logistical point of view. Gets Easter, etc well out of the way too. How would folk be fixed for that date? Gives us all plenty of advance planning time.
Sure post your thoughts.
Cheers,
-Barry
+1
Apologies for posting a poll and then not following through with it but for various reasons it didn't really work. Hopefully the 25th gives enough notice so that most people can make it.
Any thoughts would be great!
Barry, here's your chance to create an agenda for the next brew meet!
Item 1 : Discuss next brew day
Item 2: Sample some brews
Item 3: Sample some more brews
Alan
Hah, that agenda's pretty much written itself :)
-Barry
So we have an agenda now what about having a March meeting? A Wed/Thurs night at Spoons perhaps with a different room? I thought that the last meet we had at Spoons was a real success.
Alan
I'd be up for a march meeting. Twill be my first also. I'll bring along my botched red ale attempt which has ended up somehow along the lines of a brown ale. Its also the one which I think has astringency
Exciting news!!!
Matthew has very kindly offered Boundary Brewing (http://www.boundarybrewing.coop) as a venue for our brewday! The brewday will run as normal on homebrew equipment.
Should be good!
Now.... What to brew?!
Awesome stuff. Is the plan to do all-grain, extract or both?
Sweet! At least if our brew fecks up we have something huge to fall back on :)
Ciaran - Deffo an all-grain at least, but Might be an idea to run an extract or kit while the all-grain's doing its thing.
We need to minimise a load of waiting around for stuff to finish. Maybe even 2 staggered all-grains e.g. Full mash interspersed with BIAB?
-Barry
Do we vote on what to brew?
Many hands make light work lads. I like Bazzas idea of a staggered start so we don't twiddle our thumbs or drink too much. Is the date and time confirmed? Plus where is the Boundrys premises?

What about this meet up then? The last one was good craic. I've a blonde ale that needs an inspection I'm sure you'll all gladly help me with.
Hi All,
Just a reminder that the brewday's happening on Saturday 25th April in Boundary Brewing.
Planning to kick things off around 10am.
Before we go ahead with sorting the finer details, I just wanted to get a feeling for numbers. Not to sound too dictatorial but, given how close we are to the day, I would prefer 100% definites:
1. Bazza
Cheers,
-Barry
100% fo' sho'!
1. Bazza
2. sub82
1. Bazza
2. sub82
3. Quiet_Man (after footy, 12 ish)
I haven't been able to make it to any of the club meets yet but wouldn't mind coming along to this to get some tips. Is that alright?
Yeah man absolutely! The more the merrier! It's completely open to everyone :)
And if you've any suggestions, ideas, etc., fire them up here!
I'll be at a Spinal Tap tribute night on the Friday before so can I suggest some kind Stone 'Enge- themed brew?
That, or a sex farm.

Matthew just mentioned this to me. There is a tasting/cheese pairing night at the brewery after the brewday and anyone who wants to go is more than welcome.
The address is:
Boundary Brewing, Unit A5, Portview Trade Centre, 310 Newtownards Rd, BT4 1HE
Just bumping the list........
Any more takers?
1. Bazza
2. sub82
3. Quiet_Man (after footy, 12 ish)
Remember; this is happening tomorrow.
-Barry
Oh! Soooooooooo, excited!
Can't sleep!
Pumped man. Pumped!
I won the air guitar competition at the Spinal Tap tribute last night. This is a high you don't easily come down from.
- Barry
Great day at Boundary Brewing watching Bazza and Sub_82 do all the hard work. Sat back and enjoyed some of Matthew's lovely beers.
My Mamma, she told me there'd be days like this!
But she didn't warn me about cucumbers wrapped in tin foil.
Where did that fall out off?
Bazza?

I urge you to watch Spinal Tap. All will become clear. I don't know if you noticed, but during the brewday today I'd moved on to marrows ???
Yes; a thoroughly satisfying day all round. Matthew, you've some setup there and thanks majorly for giving up your morning and letting us use your space. Lovely beers, lovely hams and good crack. What a brewday should be. Class.
And for once my missus couldn't complain about me coming home smelling like a brewery. Boom boom!
Cheers Matthew, Chris and Andy for making it a good one.
-Barry
To second Quiet_Man and Bazza, great day out - thank you Matthew for opening on a Saturday, letting us do a brew AND sample some tasty beers including some barrel aged specials!
An excellent brew day!
Some photos!

Hey chaps looks like you had a cracking day, I am unfortunately house bound with the kids cause the missus is busy with her msc so daddy duty calls, maybe another brew day during the summer?
Matt, looks like you have a fantastic setup, congratulations man

Hi Andy! Long time no speak! How're you keeping? Any brews on?
Looks like a good day there and the brewery looks great so looking at the pictures I was wondering ,who broke the handle on the mug :)
It was like that when I got there your honour!

Lovely piccies there lads, well done.
Sub82 & Bazza - how are the brews coming along?
Not so bad haven't looked in a while but planning on bottling tomorrow or Sunday so will get some bottles down as soon as they're ready!
Ditto. Had a wee look this morning and it smells class.
Andy, can YOU remember if we added the Irish Moss or not? Chris and me are at a loss. Blaming the fumes from the fermenters.
Hoping to bottle this weekend. Had to call into Nature's Way today for more caps. Did I mention before just how much I hate bottling? Just in case I haven't, I hate bottling.
-Barry
Can't recall Irish Moss being mentioned, so don't think so!
However, in my defence - I was too busy sampling Boundary's wares!
What yeast did you use, Barry?

A leftover sachet of Gervin GV12. Decent wee yeast, though

Think you're right - bottled this last night and looked very cloudy!! A nice wee unintentional experiment to see what Irish Moss does!

About to start bottling mine now. Just trying to sum up the willpower. It's tough.
Will keep you posted with results.
Cheers,

Right. Done. 22 bottles preparing for conditioning:

See what you mean about the clarity, Chris:

Could have been bottled straight from the Lagan.
Taste-wise it's okay if nothing remarkable. See how they fare after a few weeks carbing and cold-conditioning.
Oh, btw, in case anyone was in any doubt- I hate bottling.
Cheers,
-Barry
Never heard how these beers turned out?
Cloudy - yeah. But were they drinkable?
Hasn't turned out too badly.
Has a nice citra flavour and aroma and the flaked rye gives a bit of spiciness. The first one I opened foamed like crazy but the rest have been grand.
Will try and get a photo up - have some set aside for the next meet and for Matthew.
Ditto. Not bad at all. The Citra have come through well.
Forgot about the Rye, Chris. Yeah, that might account for the tanginess.
All in all, a nice summer drink if a little on the murky side still:

As promised, in all it's cloudy tasty glory!

"Anyone watching Glastonbury?"
Yeah, all 2 minutes of Motorhead.
