Well done Judy Wilkins, the only home brewerette on the list... Cat 23 is a huge category and to get silver is a great achievement.

Fair play to everyone yesterday. It was great fun and things went really smoothly. A great team effort. Alan and the crew in the Oslo really looked after us too. So big thanks to everyone.
Well done to all the lads ;D
Great gig, fantastic work by all. Looking forward to Dublin.
Congrats Rossa, on that rake of medals, that's very impressive stuff. Well done to all the medal winners too. I can't believe the numbers in some of those categories! Like Porter with 21 entries!!
Thanks to all the organisers, stewards and judges for their trojan work. Roll on the Dublin leg, really looking forward to it. :)
Well done to all the winners - looking forward to seeing the Dublin leg.
Will the gold medalists share recipes at some point?
Cheers

Great question. I'd hope so. I'll stick mine up once I get a chance.

Wait until you see the big ones - stout, pale ale and ipa. I think they have over 40 in each. The spread had been great this year. Nearly every category was well represented. It really shows brewers are expanding their repertoire to new styles - often ones you can't readily buy here.

Its difficult to tell really as the total number of entries increased each year. Would be more accurate to see the percentage of the total entries
Don't understand the unpopularity of pilsener.
Unless it's that it disappears straight away if it's even passable :-[

Lack of temperature control probably
Was thinking that but shurely there's more than 4 brewers out there with temp control?

I judged the boh pils yesterday. It's a tough one to hide behind. Any flaws seem magnified by the simplicity of the beer. Tough to get right.
Sorry if this is way off topic but what kind of flaws were you seeing - butterscotch, green apples, esters, poor clarity?

Pretty much the whole shooting gallery. Phenols to baby poo.
Crikey, those are a bit more serious than just temp control / starter size issues.
I was just wondering if I'd be able to pick up my medal at the Dublin leg?
Of course sir
I am guarding it with my life !
Ah fantastic! And what's the craic with the bag of grain?
I am splitting it with Nigel or Jacob .. getting it tonight, Will will know !
The proceed will pay for the Vacuum bags I believe.
Mighty stuff, thanks!
ok
Brain fart there..
You are probably referring to the free bag for a gold medal !
My bad ..
That will be sorted out after the Dublin leg..
Boy my previous post must have sounded confusing !!
I'd kinda drawn my own conclusions. Not to worry, I'm prone to brainfarts myself!
Hey , just to jump in, is it general ok to pick up medals in Dublin from the first leg guarded by lives (or not)? Cheers. S
I knew that rye was a winner shanek. Excellent beer!
Cheers Mark, Well chuffed!
I'll have all the galway medals, for pickup by winners
Rossa, nailing it!
Wish I could've participated this year, but it cost me over $50 USD to mail 2 bottles into the competition last year so I had very strict instructions not to send anything. ;-(
Great to get to see everyone posting photos on FB and the various member blogs, though.

That's what I named her. Perry Mason. A lot going on inside
Ah ok, just making sure there wasn't a mistake.

I based it on one of the Perry recipes actually. At least I think I did.
Yes!
It is my first competition in Ireland and I (my friend and me) have HM in Alt (Category 7)!!!
What about timetable for 7/03???

Hope so I'd really like to see the Black IPA Recipe.
I think they should !
I will bring it up on Saturday, hopefully we can twist a few arms and get the recipes up there.

Ask and you shall receive. Here's the Black for what it's worth.
I'm a newcomer to Brewsmith, so please excuse me if it's arseways!
The point is to share the recipes. For the Nationals its not compulsory but for the smaller regional comps like Wikkla then it is requested that you share!
No one is going to be castigated for not publishing the recipe but hey: If you got Gold in the Nats then why not share the recipe?
UNLESS: You are about to go commercial :)
Well I have shared my Monkey Butt Brown Ale and would like to see it commercial :)
Never understood secrecy in recipes. It's not like anything stays secret even in the commercial industry very long. Going pro has a lot more to do with procees and marketing than a super secret special recipe.

Absolutely.
It's nice for less experienced brewers to see what works and learn how to create their own based on trusted recipes that are peer reviewed.
Something that would be a great learning exercise would be for members to brew some of those recipes and have them judged or tasted again to see how they differed as well.

You got it in one ;). There is hardly a commercial beer out there that started as one beer and is now totally different. :o
Not that my beers are any good, but I am in the habit of listing the ingredients on my bottle labels.
It is useful at a tasting when someone asks 'WTF did you put in that!'. I then point at the label O0

Cheers. Looks good, might add it to the list. Quick question though are the measured gravities, etc accurate or just the BS default?
Actually sorry here's another question Helmet. Was it really only 15 IBUs? How does an 15 IBU Black IPA win a gold medal?
Sorry, I never adjusted the gravity readings. OG was 1065 and FG was 1018.
As for the IBU, I couldn't tell you. Like I say I'm new to BS and may well have fupped something up along the way.
Takes a bit of getting to know alright. I assume it was bitter though yeah?
Bitter enough anyway! I just ran the numbers again and it came in at 47.
