Title: Forgot to add acid blend to banana wine
Post by: ComusLives on February 26, 2015, 12:29:53 PM
Just started my first attempt at banana wine, following this recipe: http://www.celebrationgeneration.com/blog/2011/10/13/how-to-make-homemade-banana-wine/

Got everything together before I realized that I forgot to pick up any acid blend as the recipe calls for, and this is the only brew day I have available for a while. Should I go ahead without it and hope it doesn't effect things too much or is it entirely necessary for wine? I've only made one batch of wine before so I'm pretty new to all this.

I'd say drive on. Lemon juice and maybe some grape juice can be used. Read this (http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f25/acid-blend-alternative-74910/).

You can pick up citric acid in the pharmacy, I think? Isn't acid blend just a mixture of citric and malic acid?

If you can get the outter skin of a lemon and a bit of the juice try that

Did you try any findings ? Mine was well cleared after a few racks and the findings added.
