Title: Attaching a Wort Chiller to a Tap
Post by: DoubleG on March 16, 2015, 02:49:39 PM
Hi All,

I have recently purchased a standard Copper Wort Chiller, never used one before but was wondering what's the best way to connect the chiller to the sink tap? I presume I can get some clear tubing from a homebrew shop but does anyone have any suggestions for attaching the tubing to the sink tap? I don't want to loose too much pressure from the sink.

Thanks

You can get hozelock connectors for the kitchen tap. Have a look in your local garden shop or builders providers.

What alot of people don't know is the modern tap has a threaded head that a sprinkler is pushed into to agitate the water coming out. You can buy a threaded fitting to fit into a tap to allow you use a quick disconnect

Good call D.
Although house management might not be too happy if said threaded head is scored from vice-grip marks.
Exercise care as many of these are 'chrome' coated plastic.

And if it's like my kitchen tap, it's seized with limescale and you strip the threads out  :(

If you have acces to the pipes under the sink you can simply install a 1/2" brass T, with a 1/2 nipple that will connect the faucet to the water, and in the other end of the tee you connect a ball valve. Something like in the attached picture.
In my country this is the cheaper alternative, screw-on adapter that screw directly to the faucet ar too expensive for this pourpuse. With this T and ball valve you can fill your kettle with water more easily.
