Title: Hops
Post by: onesoma on April 06, 2015, 09:19:22 PM
Anyone got a line on a good hops supplier?

In quantities of a few hundred grams each, maybe two kilos total.

Last time I got some off Tube it worked out a good bit cheaper than the Irish suppliers.

I'd also be interested in this if you find out. Just got a vac sealer and wouldn't mind bulking buying some tasty US hops.

Not sure you will be able to buy so little as when you get above the 100gr pouches you trending towards whole sale e.g. 5kg sized bales. Why not start a group buy list for the varieties your interested in & see if you can reach the numbers. You can buy hops from these guys in the UK.

Piece of advice is to go for pellets over leaf and make sure you get people to agree to help :) Best of luck.

Go with pellets all the way. Easier to store and repackage. Leaf are massive.

Do you have to pay any import duties with that?

Stale hops are definitely become a problem at the moment.

I didn't have to pay any. Keep it below the 2kg is the key i reckon.

Shipping is a bit steep isn't it? $24 for < 1.6Kg, $60 for more than that

The ink ran on all my group buy hop labels. Cant tell what is what. Great craic. Will probably have to do a sniff test & look up exactly what I bought to see what they are.

+1 on yakima valley. Great to deal with. They will mark down the cost so you dont pay customs. They sell c02 hop extract too!

Ive just ran some numbers on the cost of  Cascade, Arm,Citra,Chinook hops from Yakima vs HBC. Staying within the 1.6kg shipping for 24$. It cost 85.96 Euro for the Hops (shipping included) from Yakima vs 82.41 Euro from HBC (include shipping with 5% members discount). And thats not taking into account that you could get stung for import duty too. So whats the advantage of buying from the US

The euro wasn't always so weak against the dollar so it was previously cheaper. More choice too possibly

Is there interest in a group buy from the UK maybe? Can someone post a list of suppliers previously used on here for group buys?

Probably worth considering that Euro has dropped against GBP as well as USD.

True, but still worth checking out. A price list would reveal all
