Hi Folks

I am currently looking into pid control and doing a little research.
I am finalising my system(ha!) and would like to do some sort of mash control and I understand I need a pid for this. I would only see the need for the pid on mash control.
I was looking into the bits and pieces I need for this when I happened across the Auber ect 100. Was wondering would this do the trick, link below.

Ok - this is copied from their website -

"This controller uses electromechanical relay for the power output switching. Although the electromechanical relay makes a little click switching sound and is not as long lasting as the sold state relay (SSR)"

You need a system that will not fail eaisly, and last. To control temps on HERMS, you will have a high level of switching. From what i can see on the spec, it will also only control an element upto 2200 watt on 240v supply.

What size element are you looking to control? If are you using 2200watt element, it will pull about 9amps. The spec says it will control upto 10amps on output at 240v.

IMHO - this is not suitable for your needs. It would wear out very quickly or even burn out on you if your amps spike for whatever reason.

Your best option is a pid, an ssr sized at double the amps you will pull, an on/off switch and a small housing.

I have an auber pid I'm very happy with but you could get a mypin td4 or similar on eBay for like half the price.

I can get my hands on a rex c100, not the relay model from a friend who abondoned his project, is it worth a punt?

Evening fellow brewers, i aquired the rex c100 it is the ssr model rex-c100fk02-v*. It has a ktype thermo. I have been scratchin my head to figure out how I can fit the thermo into my system, ideally before the inflow of my pump. It wont fit in a t. Can anyone enlighten me.

Need a bit more info or photos of your set up, are you using the heater as a rims tube set up or is it in the bottom of the mash tun? If it's a Rims tube you would place the temperature probe on the outlet of the Rims tube, if the element is in the bottom of the mash tun them in the line between the valve and the pump would be fine. You haven't mentioned whether you bought an SSR or not, to go with the Rex? Is it just that the probe is too long or are the fittings on the probe the probe the wrong size for the T fitting?

Hi

Its for an ebiab setup, i want to place the sensor to the inflow of the pump, problem is its not 1/2 npt so cant attach it to a t.

Its the same probe as in the link

Thread diam is 6mm / 0.24".
I have a 40a ssr and i ordered a heatsink

I might just purchase a pt100 and program the rex for it.

You could try a 1/2" Male NPT to 1/4" Female NPT Bush (http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Air-Lift-1-2-Male-NPT-to-1-4-Female-NPT-Bush-Tank-Port-Reducer-Suspension-Bag-/360628139682?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item53f71cb6a2).

Those sensors that come with the REX C100 aren't great for sealing though. They're grand to just put them into the mash or kettle.

You'd be better off getting a PT100. It will probably work out cheaper too.
