Title: Keezer build - Question about chest freezers
Post by: Pheeel on May 11, 2015, 01:01:02 PM
Looking to build a keezer and (finally) got approval from the SWMBO

I've never owned a chest freezer (and don't have access to one to verify) so wondering if folks know where the heat is dissipated from typically? I'd likely be buying it from DID/Harvey Normans (but I doubt they'd be able to answer my question!)

I stupidly showed the wife the coffin keezer which has a wood frame. She likes it because it would fit in with our other furniture From the picture I have no idea how heat will escape (the fella said it was venting from the right) so I'd be worried about it overheating

The other option is a collar which is a simpler build and is less enclosed, but doesn't look as furniture like

Most chest freezers have the condenser coils on the back of the freezer, they are in mine, Mine sticks a small bit out from the wall, so the lid can open. I've never had a problem with overheating.

I just got one on adverts,  coils also at the back under the hinges.  I'm gonna put a collar on mine too.  Just to heighten it though so I can fit 2 more keys on the compressor box

Ahh. Seems like most of the builds from the US the chest freezers don't have coils at the back and there's a vent or some other heat escaping. If it's coils that's easy enough!

It might be that mine is an older model, the new ones might just have the vent but the chest freezers are designed to be placed against walls.
