Title: Stout tap fitting / beer line question
Post by: mr hoppy on May 21, 2015, 11:36:48 PM
Anyone have any idea what size beer line the john guest fitting on this tap takes. I think this was a pub stout tap in a previous life? It's smaller than 5/16" so I'm guessing 3/16"?

Also, I've had trouble trying to remove the JG fitting - is there a trick to this?

On my phone it looks like about 2mm, but on my laptop about 6.
Maybe use a Vernier gauge?
Generally JG fittings have the size embossed below the ring.

I know what you're trying to say.

Turns out the small circular ring / collar that's at the beer line end of my other JG fittings was in the shaft of the tap holding the thin end of the longer  fitting. The trick was (as usual) to heat them up and gently prise the long fitting out of the collar with the business end of a flat headed screw driver. If I put the collar in the shaft without the fitting it grips tight like a JG fitting should on 8mm OD (approx 5/16") beer line. Yay!

I'd prefer to use a 5/16" JG corny disconnect but I don't think any of the Irish HBS stock them, so I'll try a barb disconnect I have spare which I think will hook the 8mm line up to a corny beer out disconnect.

Yeah none of the hb shops have them, this place does http://www.cateringparts.ie/Products/STRAIGHT-FITTING-JG-PI451015FS__3349195.aspx I've been looking for someone else to get John guest parts as the shipping is a flat 10 euro,

Price of the fittings themselves is fairly reasonable and it looks like they have the one I need.

Wonder if there's other rebels short an obscure JG fitting?

Sorry I thought you were talking about a John guest for the end of the beer tap shift, but they have the disconnect ones as well. I remember seeing that LordEoin was looking for some at one stage.

You'll but it, use it once, and nobody will be able to doubt you!
