Title: sediment and goop during secondary fermentation
Post by: Philsner on May 26, 2015, 09:42:26 PM
hi guys, just a bit of advice needed. done the craft range IPA, dry hopped it and bottled same last wednesday. there is goopy sediment in every bottle. followed everything to the letter of the law (i think) sanitised everything. only difference is i used the carbon drops instead of the priming sugar provided (putting that down to laziness) i had a sneaky taste of the hydromoter before bottling and it tasted fine now im worrying if i infected the beer during dry hopping. i have turned the bottles upside down to try and mix it up but dont want to do that too often.

any advice please or am i overreacting?

Overreacting if it tastes fine. Put them in the fridge and pour them into the glass slowly to leave the gunk behind

Is it just the yeast from bottle conditioning? Just chill the bottle for a few days then pour gently and leave an inch at the end of each bottle.

Did you bottle straight from the fermenter as well? You might have roused up some of the yeast and crud from there whilst doing so.

The longer you leave the bottles refridgerated the more compact the sediment becomes: chill, pour, enjoy your tasty home brewed beer!

You may want to look into kegging, it's your future!
